Another birthday has come around. I wonder whether it is as Xingqiu says: "Only with age does one come to know the taste of sorrow." And yet, after eating the pastries prepared this morning to celebrate my birthday, I found myself feeling somewhat at a loss. As I grow older, I suppose the time has come for me to shoulder greater responsibility. But when I think on it again... I have yet to make any real sense of my "yang energy," and my progress in the practice of mystic arts has hardly been ideal. At the thought of all this, I must admit... I do find myself somewhat troubled. Xingqiu, however, tells me that being troubled is a good thing — that there is true meaning to be found in sorrow, and something about "fearing not the drifting clouds that obscure one's sight"... But whatever the case, I would still like to first get to the bottom of this yang energy of mine... I recall that Madame Lan Yan's family practices a form of art that can divine good and ill fortune. Should the opportunity arise, perhaps I truly ought to ask her to perform a divination for me... Oh, right! You should try some of these pastries as well. They are especially delicious. Um... even after they've gone cold, I promise. | |
