Sin Mal

Once a Russian noble, Sin Mal lost her family due to a series of bizarre disasters. During a fight, she can be mischievous and terribly evil against her enemies, with some tastes for masochism. She devoted her life to serve Cocolia's ambitions and became a member of Bronya's team.

Retrospective

Following the incident in which she entirely burned her adoptive parents' house, she was then adopted by Cocolia as part of the X-10 Experiment, where she was selected as a candidate. As Bronya was also taking part, Sin became jealous and shoved her down a stairway, damaging her legs.

Seele Vollerei had seen the altercation but was helpless to stop her. She was determined to confront Sin, who mocked and abused her for being weak and helpless. Seele's stigmata then possessed her, shocking Sin as she did not expect such power from her. Seele then plucked one of Sin's teeth before subjecting her to the same treatment she had done to Bronya, which caused Sin to lose consciousness.

Despite not taking part in the X-10 experiment, Sin would continue to serve Anti-Entropy.

In Chapter 19 of Retrospective, while Kiana and her friends are training in St. Freya, Bronya got controlled by Anti-Entropy to attack St. Freya. Later, Mei and the gang had managed to wake up Bronya and save the nuclear reactor in Hyperion from exploding by the power of Bronya. After that, Sin appeared and sabotaged the communication system that lead an assault on Hyperion.

Bronya suggested an assault back on Anti-Entropy ship to destroy its power unit, the "Moonlight Throne". By Himeko's cunning driving, Hyperion managed to "knock" the door on Anti-Entropy ship and began our heroine's assault to end this conflict.

When arriving at the "Moonlight Throne", our gang began to learn the true motive of Anti-Entropy. Here, they encountered Cocolia and Sin that wanted to capture Mei (as "The Third Herrscher") to finalize their plan but they got defeated by Kiana and caused their plan to fail. Then Cocolia began to wake up "Sirin", the being known as "The Second Herrscher". The last thing we can see is "Sirin", a voice replied to Cocolia and Bronya telling that Moonlight Throne is beginning to fall.

Newborn

Sin Mal's backstory is explained in one of the Houkai Gakuen 2nd side stories manga. Sin was born as the daughter of two Russian nobles, who were murdered by a robber. Sin later killed the robber, but was blamed for her parents' death and later adopted by abusive relatives.

One day, Bronya, looking for food, breaks into Sin Mal's home and threatens her. However, Bronya's pursuers follow her and attack her. Sin Mal then kills the pursuers and Bronya is able to leave.

That day, an angel appeared in front of me. She showed me the light. She gave me the hope of living in this corrupt world. She planted seeds in my heart and soon left. I'm tracing her footsteps, chasing her shadow.

Later on, Sin's adoptive parents meet Cocolia, who wishes to adopt Sin from them. Sin Mal meets with Bronya and Seele once more in the courtyard, but Bronya and Seele are visibly afraid of Sin and Bronya calls her a monster. Because of her failure to become friends with them, (likely reducing her chances of being adopted by Cocolia since she does not get along with Cocolia's other children) her adoptive parents beat her. Sin Mal, lying on the shards of a broken mirror that was shattered during her beating, begins to hear voices. The voices tell her that the only way for her to become a human is to become the incarnation of sin, a trait that distinguishes humans from other beings. Her adoptive parents then try to sell her to a noble as a child bride in a bid to get rid of her, but Sin retaliates and splits the nobles head in half, stating that she doesn't want to be a monster, but rather a human. She then burns down the palace, meeting once more with Bronya and Seele, asking them if she is human now. Cocolia ends up taking her in. At this point Sin Mal, heartbroken and jealous of Bronya and Seele's relationship, decides to bully Seele in revenge.

Some time passes and Sin Mal undergoes the X10 experiment where Bronya and Seele learn more about her childhood, but unfortunately the experiment fails.

During the second time Bronya reveals to Sin that she called her a monster because she was afraid of herself.

Sin... I'm sorry. You're not a monster. The one in the wrong here is me... Who was afraid of becoming a monster. When I first met you on that rainy night, I saw the evil reflected in your eyes. .....It felt like my heart shattered. Before I met you, I fought and killed to live, and dyed my hands red with blood...... I was scared... The reflection I saw in your eyes was of a monster wearing human skin. So I avoided you... I was scared. But I wasn't scared of you, I was scared of what I looked like to you. Sin, I'm sorry.

Afterwards Sin, Bronya, and Seele are able to become closer.
