Chapter IX — EX-1/EX-2

Upon arriving in Arc City, Theresa, Bronya, and Mei discover their contact, the intel dealer Gray Serpent, has been murdered. The scene is littered with destroyed mechs, indicating a recent battle. While local security forces are alerted to their presence, Bronya manages to hack their systems and deactivate the alarms.

Bronya's analysis of the crime scene reveals that the murder was a professional hit. The killer took Gray Serpent's cellphone and computer and removed his cybernetic implants, likely to bypass biometric security. However, they overlooked a bio-verification chip in his wrist. Despite Theresa's concerns about the danger, likely from Schicksal who she suspects is behind the murder, Bronya insists on using the chip to access Gray Serpent's backup data in their continued search for Kiana. Theresa reluctantly agrees, cautioning that she will abort the mission if it becomes too risky.
