Etymology

• 「大饼」干 Dàbǐnggān is a combination of 大饼 dàbǐng, "big pancake" and 饼干 bǐnggān, "biscuit". The Chinese idiom 画大饼 huàdàbǐng, "draw big pancakes", which derives from the proverb 画饼充饥 huàbǐngchōngjī, "draw pancakes to satisfy hunger", is used to describe an "empty promise."
