- Hyacinth: A long time ago, I read about a microorganism called the paramecium.
- Hyacinth: They come from a distant planet and are composed of a single cell. You wouldn't think they are creatures that possess any intelligence.
- Hyacinth: But their peculiar behavior piqued my interest.
- Hyacinth: When one paramecium interacts with another, they will conjugate and then divide. The two cells become a single entity for a moment before splitting apart again.
- Hyacinth: Nothing remarkable will come of this interaction. Each of them just permanently loses a part of themselves while gaining a part of the other.
- Hyacinth: I don't know if my description made sense, but the way I see it: This instinct of a single-celled organism from so long ago has become a crude outline of our behavior.
- Hyacinth: Don't we interact with each other in the same way when we're teaching, falling in love, and making friends?

- Hyacinth: I wonder where he found this virus.
- Hyacinth: Oh, I can talk about it. It's surprising to be sure, but all I have is conjecture right now.
- Hyacinth: A client of mine went Memory Zone diving. When he came back up, he brought with him microorganisms I've never seen before.
- Hyacinth: Owing to the chaos of the Dreamscape, they were damaged and incomplete. But having examined them, I'm certain they're some kind of inactivated virus.
- Hyacinth: And not just any virus, these are man-made: A perfect virus.
- Hyacinth: I can't even begin to explain the complexities involved in creating this.
- Hyacinth: It's as if some kind of will freely manipulated everything at a microscopic level. Then, after some trial and error, isolated their deepest calamitous fear and made it real.
- Hyacinth: Maybe this virus devastated a planet or star system once upon a time, and those infected fled from there.
- Hyacinth: Then, by coincidence, the painful memories of these individuals were deposited here, permanently etched in the depths of the Memory Zone.

- For a brief moment, you thought your clockwork malfunctioned. She doesn't look sad at all.
- Hyacinth: Oh, I have a new discovery for you. Maybe it'll get you more interested in Memory Zone diving.
- With great care, she removes a sealed tube-shaped container from her pocket and opens it.
- Hyacinth: Watch. Three, two...
- Before she can finish her countdown, fluorescent spots light up across the tube-shaped container. They are very bright but quickly fade.
- Hyacinth: That's it. You just witnessed the entire lifespan of a certain life form.
- Hyacinth: They come from a planet of eternal night and only have a lifespan of about 15 minutes.
- Hyacinth: In those 15 minutes, apart from assuring the continuation of their species, they spend the rest of their time collecting the energy required to create a flash of light — the same light that would also end their lives.
- Hyacinth: Their bodies just don't have the capacity to contain so much energy.
- Hyacinth: On that planet shrouded in eternal dark, heroes of yore walked the paths created by these fluorescent lights to clearly see the fangs of ferocious beats and win back peace for their people.
- Hyacinth: But the lights you just saw in the container didn't come from all of them.
- Hyacinth: There were some who couldn't produce a glimmer of light even after a lifetime of trying. They were just too, too small.
