Multi-Playthrough Civilization

A genius might shake Nous's thoughts, but for most beings in the cosmos, civilization is like the digits of pi, stretching on forever, with nothing left to do but check the math endlessly. We knew this all too well. Twenty full Amber Eras of futile searching proved that civilization had reached the very ceiling of truth. And so, we made the decision to reduce ourselves to zero.

We sealed away civilization and memories, and like newborns, returned barefoot to the savage age of slash-and-burn. We rekindled a campfire in the mud, reproved geometry on clay tablets, cheered at the rediscovery of gears and equations, and wept as we watched rockets rise into the starry sky. When the deviation between our civilization and the save file fell below three thousandths, the accounting machines buried deep within the planet's core began to bellow once more, the celebration arrived as promised, and we splurged everything we had reclaimed. Then, after the fireworks cooled down, once more we pressed the button to restart civilization.

Within the forgotten cyclicality, we are given the chance to relive the thrill of discovery and enlightenment.
