Seaside Siren

Listen, the waves have brought new memories:
Shells and grains of sand, once a ruin of the city-state.
Their surfaces are etched with stories, each scratch like the rings of a tree.
Creatures called sirens gather them, marking them with their claws.
This one is a surprise from Zagreus,
and that one carries tales from Oronyx.
When their nests overflow with trinkets, the sirens scatter them back to sea.
Leaving only ethereal poetry to chronicle their hidden secrets.
Ah, people say sirens are man-eating monsters.
Yet who has noticed they are also masterful poets?
