Song of Gravity

I consider myself an anthropologist, so I chose to observe Tailitrace, an inhabited planet near a black hole. Due to tidal forces, every astronaut sent into its gravitational field must bid farewell to their family forever, and the people of Tailitrace hold a song festival to see them off.
This is the grandest celebration on the planet. Young and old, men and women alike come to sing and rate each other's songs. The winner is chosen as the next astronaut, and their prize is this song: the voice of the first singer is stretched by gravity at the edge of the black hole, physically layering and interweaving with the voice of the later singer, creating a time-dilated chorus. Only those who enter the black hole's range can hear the complete song.
I can't imagine how mesmerizing that melody must be. Perhaps I should go listen for myself.
