Kids there master calculus by age 6, get cozy with string theory by 8, and can hand-calculate black hole gravity formulas by 10, which explains why the "Knowledge Injection Gun" became such a massive hit on that planet. To prevent students from turning into total bookworms, the Doramon Ministry of Education mandated that every child must launch a lead ball equal to their own body weight during their coming-of-age ceremony. Method doesn't matter; just get it done. But as the academic rat race heated up, kids started hurling those balls faster and faster, until they broke the first cosmic velocity.
Now, the planet's low orbit is completely crammed with lead balls floating around like a makeshift asteroid belt, so the coming-of-age ritual got an upgrade: it's now an obstacle course in space. Kids pilot manual spacecraft through the shot put field, and a little bit later, they will be scattered by the crowd.
