Yanyou is a mentioned NPC in Honkai: Star Rail.
History
Growing up, Yanyou's parents told him that anthropology was a pointless discipline that would never help him find a job. So when he insisted on going through with pursuing anthropology, his parents severed all ties with him. After finally entering the academy we wished to attend, he found all the leading academics there to be from academic families with thousands of years of history, leaving him to feel mediocre among his peers.[1]
Yanyou then became a disciple of Dr. Zongguang who focused his study on the borisin.[1]
As of the penning of Respect Only the Strong: A Borisin Cultural Study and Commentary, Yanyou had recently left the Xianzhou Luofu unauthorized to join the Whitewolf Pack. His leaving is considered a betrayal to the Xianzhou, with Dr. Zongguang accepting responsibility for his actions and accepting any punishment for it.[1]
Dr. Zongguang presumes that it is the barbaric lifestyle of the borisin and their culture of only using meritocracy to select heroes that provided allure to Yanyou, much like many others in civilized society.[1]
