"A Bountiful Family Feast"
Story Description: Manato borrowed the second-floor kitchen of Yum Cha Sin to prepare a feast. At the dining table, you are impressed by his culinary skills and find out his perspective on family.
- You arrive at the second floor of Yum Cha Sin as invited.
After a short wait, you see Manato step out from the kitchen. - Komano Manato: (WiseWise /
BelleBelle), you're here!
So when you said you were treating me to a meal...
You meant you're cooking yourself?- (ProtagonistProtagonist): Ohh, so this is what you meant by treating me to a meal? You're cooking it yourself?
- Komano Manato: That's right! I made several trips to the market to pick up ingredients, even asked the older folks there how to do it right...
- Komano Manato: Fish maw chicken soup takes a lot of prep, and my home kitchen's way too small. The stove doesn't get hot enough either, so I asked Sweety for help...
- Komano Manato: She was really generous and let me use part of their kitchen here. That helped out a lot!
Fish maw chicken soup...
That sounds amazing!- (ProtagonistProtagonist): Fish maw chicken soup...? That sounds amazing!
- Komano Manato: Hmm... the soup's almost ready. The last step is just keeping it warm and adjusting the flavor a bit before serving... I've got some other dishes going on too. Hang tight.
- Manato hurries back into the kitchen.
The delicious smell coming from inside is too tempting. You find yourself wandering over and sneaking a peek through the door. - Steam and soft light wrap around Manato as he moves with practiced rhythm, flipping a spatula, grabbing seasoning bottles, all in one smooth flow.
In that moment, he looks even more dependable and mature than you imagined. - Not long after, he brings out plate after plate of beautifully cooked dishes.
- Komano Manato: Blanched choy sum, shrimp & scrambled eggs, fish maw chicken soup... All recipes I learned from folks at the market! Not sure why, but they were super passionate about teaching me how to cook...
You've helped them out so much, Manato.
People say good things about you all the time!- (ProtagonistProtagonist): You've helped a lot of people, so of course they have good things to say about you. You've earned it!
- Komano Manato: Is that so? But I just did what anyone would do.
- Komano Manato: If anything, you're the one who's always helping others. You're like sunshine, warm and quiet. Just being around you makes people feel safe...
...- (ProtagonistProtagonist): ...
- Komano Manato: Hmm...?
Why's your face all red? Is it too warm in here? Or is one of the dishes too hot for you? - Komano Manato: That's weird. You haven't even started eating yet...
- Manato ladles a scoop of hot soup into a bowl, touches the bowl to check the temperature, and passes it to you.
- Komano Manato: Hm, the soup's at the perfect temperature.
- Komano Manato: Here, give it a try. The old folks said this fish maw chicken soup's especially good for people who are always on the move.
- You take the bowl from him. The rich aroma wraps around you as you take a big gulp.
The smooth fish maw and rich chicken broth gently melt on your tongue. - You can't resist reaching for the other dishes. Rich flavors burst across your taste buds...
This is what happiness tastes like! - Komano Manato: Well? How is it?
It's... it's incredible!
I didn't know you were this good at cooking!- (ProtagonistProtagonist): This is insanely good! I didn't know you were this good at cooking, Manato!
- Komano Manato: (WiseWise /
BelleBelle), that's a little dramatic...! - Komano Manato: It reminded me of the first time I cooked for A-Cing and A-Yuet. They were more excited than you are now... All I made was a simple bowl of egg noodle soup. And the eggs weren't even cooked that well, too thin, kinda bland...
- Komano Manato: Still, in that moment, it made me feel real peace. Like... I didn't know I could feel that kind of happiness.
- Komano Manato: Uh...
Sorry, I'm rambling. Let's eat before everything gets cold.
A-Cing and A-Yuet must feel so lucky to have you...
- (ProtagonistProtagonist): A-Cing and A-Yuet must feel so lucky to have you...
I feel lucky too.
- (ProtagonistProtagonist): Anyway, I'm just glad I get to enjoy something this good. I feel so lucky!
- Komano Manato: Hehe...! I've been working really hard on my cooking!
- Komano Manato: To me... cooking with your whole heart for people you care about — that's what makes a place feel like home...
- The word "home" slips out suddenly, the two of you fall into a silent pause.
- Time seems to slow down. The soft clink of chopsticks and bowls fills the silence, as plates slowly become empty.
- The night settles in. But the taste of this meal, and this moment, is something you'll remember for a long, long time.
