Dracaene Sunbringer

Dracaene Sunbringer is a commission-exclusive NPC. She is the director of Roscaelifer's Central Computing Department,[5] and one of the three parts that "Sunbringer" split herself into, along with Eldreda and Lindverne.[6]

Profile

Dracaene is earnest and kind, but also lacks any insights into the original Sunbringer's thoughts, having received none of her memories. Despite being noted as the "creator of Bangboo" due to being a Sunbringer, Dracaene views them more as younger siblings rather than as her children.

While Dracaene originally had the fragment of a Karma Core within her, this has since been lost after her encounter with Girtablullu, and is now with Bashmu.[7] She is currently in a critical condition due to this.

History

Dracaene, along with Lindverne and Eldreda, were created by Sunbringer several decades ago, before she then disappeared, with Dracaene having no knowledge as to where she went or why. She has served as the head of the CCD since then.

When Phaethon arrived in Roscaelifer they were directed by Velina to the CCD, with Dracaene being the first of the Sunbringers they had the opportunity to meet in person. Dracaene explained the nature of the three Sunbringers before taking the group to the treatment room.[8] She oversaw Phaethon's treatment, which turned into an internal struggle between them and Helios, and after they regained conciousness, she explained the new relationship between the two, and provided Phaethon with an Ether Level Limiter to aid them in keeping their Etheric Other Pyrois in check. She also lamented that they had used far more Porcelloy than anticipated, and worried about what Claret would say about it.[9]

Following this, there was an attack in the Scamall Hollow on the Energy Hub, endangering the integrity of the Rosetta Data. While Velina, Phaethon, Billy and Cissia went to investigate the Hollow and back up Airspace Patrol as needed, Dracaene went to ensure the stability of the Rosetta Data. When the group returned with Norma in tow, Dracaene contacted them after they had spoken to Carinus about the potential faults within the new Logic Cores that Norma had been using for the Bangboo. Though she acknowledged the issues they faced, and couldn't offer any reprieve herself , she expressed her trust in the ESD to resolve the issue.[10]

After Phaethon, Norma and Velina (with assistance from Remielle), uncovered the source of the Bangboo corruption incident as the High-Risk Ethereal Girtablullu, Dracaene made a public announcement about the situation, absolving the ESD of any connection via the new logic cores.[11] Later in her office, she provided the CCD's damage report to Carinus so that he could report back to Eldreda, but just after he left, a series of Singularity Leakages opened up in Roscaelifer, allowing Girtablullu to enter the area. It snatched Dracaene, and would come to fuse with her as it attempted to absorb the Karma Core fragment within her.[12]

Due to this, Dracaene missed several of the scheduled treatment sessions with Phaethon, but ultimately came to meet them again after they had uncovered the chain of Singularity Leakages. With Girtablullu in control, she lured Phaethon to her office and attacked them, critically wounding Truvia in the process as Phaethon made their escape.[13] Girtablullu then used Dracaene's identity to issue an order to find Phaethon. Phaethon, meanwhile, collaborated with Remielle and Sigrid to save Dracaene. After successfully infiltrating the party set up for the newcomers from New Eridu, Remielle forced Dracaene out of the party, forcing Girtablullu to fully reveal itself and try to force its evolution into an Enchainer.[7]

After a grueling battle with an evolved Girtablullu, it was finally killed, and Dracaene was recovered from its body. However, the Ethereal had already merged with her Karma Core fragment, which Bashmu then took by consuming Girtablullu's corpse. The unconscious Dracaene was then taken by Sigrid and Lindverne while Remielle and Phaethon made their escape. Now in critical condition, Dracaene was sent to Vyrium to receive treatment.[14]

When Phaethon arrived in Vyrium, they would eventually discover that there was no way to treat Dracaene conventionally - as a being created to bear the Karma Core, it served as her source of power and without it her condition wouldn't improve. Remielle used her own power to keep Dracaene stable, with her only option for recovery being to retrieve the Karma Core fragment from Bashmu.

  • Dracaene is likely derived from Dracaena, the latinized form of Drakaina (Greek: δράκαινα), meaning "female dragon."
