Dustin is the companion of Kate; after she fed it only a few times, the cat took a liking to her and now follows her wherever she goes.

(Talk to Kate, Emerald Central Park, 12PM): Kate: Weather's this good? Gotta get outside and soak up some sun~; Kate: Sitting in class on a day like this? Total waste of good weather!; Another student from Aurelia?; Shouldn't you be in class right now...; Kate: Yo, an Aurelia Academy student? At this hour? Hmm, interesting.; Kate: You skipping class to chill too? Don't tell me you're here to drag me back to school?; You skipped class?; Kate: Yeah. Weird thing to ask, though — aren't you skipping class too?; Kate: I'm Kate, a student at Aurelia Academy — and yeah, I'm that bad kid who's always ditching class.; Dustin: Meow~ (a sweet, clingy meow); This cat seems very close to you.; Kate: This little guy's name is Dustin — started out as a stray. Fed him for a few days, and now he just follows me everywhere.; Kate: No matter where I go, this kid always finds me in no time. Aurelia's classes are a total snooze fest and teach me absolutely nothing I actually care about — there's no way I'm sticking around for that.; Dustin: Meow! Like hunting down paranormal events in Booastrum, or sniffing out the Bangboo's secret hideouts.; Kate: You wanna come along?

Dustin is a reference to the 2012 video game Gravity Rush, in which the protagonist Kat is accompanied by her feline companion named Dusty.
