Story Description: You learn about Lighter's past, and that he indeed made choices he later regretted.

Lighter: You got a moment, Manager? If you're not busy, could you hang around for a while?

Lighter: Haha, don't worry. I wasn't planning to hide it from you anyway.

Lighter pulls a flask of some liquid out of his pocket and spills it onto the ground.
Afterwards, he freezes there for a moment like a silent statue.

Lighter: ...That girl just now is the sister of a former member of my mercenary group. Her brother, Dane, used to be my second-in-command.

Lighter: But then we were given a really lucrative mission. I was supposed to go, but Dane and the others knew I was stretched thin, so they insisted they could handle it without me.

Lighter: ...That's when I made a terrible decision: I let them go, even though I had a bad feeling about it.

Lighter: And you know how the rest of the story goes...

: But it was just a tragic accident.

Lighter: Yeah, everyone said it was just an accident and that it happens in Hollows all the time.

: Putting trust in your companions is never a terrible decision.

(ProtagonistProtagonistWise / Belle) I don't think it was a terrible decision to trust your companions.

Lighter: ...Really? Is that what you think...

Lighter: I just can't shake the feeling that if I had taken a different path, if I had gone into the Hollow with them...

Lighter: At the very least, I could have died with them.

Lighter: Dane Driscoll, Nick Carmine, and Ratena Katherine... They died because of my mistake.

Lighter: People in the underground fighting pit said I was strong because of my winning streak. But I've always wondered, was it really because I was strong, or because...

Lighter: I've been yearning for death ever since then?

: Your companions would want you to live.

(ProtagonistProtagonistWise / Belle): I'm sure your companions would want you to live.

: I want you to live.

(ProtagonistProtagonistWise / Belle): But I want you to live.

Lighter: ...You know just what to say to make others feel better, Manager.

Lighter: Don't worry. I've changed a bit since Big Daddy brought me into the Sons of Calydon.

Lighter: I'll stick around until I'm no longer needed.

Lighter: Ah... I didn't realize I'd said so much. Can you promise me one thing?

Lighter: Don't tell my teammates what I just told you.

Lighter: It'd be a real pain if they knew. Big Daddy might drag me into a late-night heart-to-heart, Caesar would definitely want to dig into the details, and Lucy... well, need I say more? Piper might be the only one who'd let it go.
