Dialogue

Icon Dialogue Agent Commission Description

Seth seems to have stopped outside the front of Lumina Galleria... There's no time like the present — head over and say Hi.
(Talk to Seth)
Seth: Oh, Manager. Are you in Lumina Square for business?
Icon Dialogue Talk I'm just passing by.
Seth: I see. I just finished some fieldwork and need to organize the report. I'll be heading back to the office soon.
Seth: If it's okay with you, I'll be going then...
Icon Dialogue Talk I'm here to see you.
Seth: Really? Why didn't you give me a head's up? I was out in the field earlier. You almost came for nothing...
Seth: Wait, I don't have any overdue videotapes, right? Don't tell me you came all the way just to remind me...
???: Mr. Public Security Officer!
???: Yes, you with the wagging tail!
Street Reporter: I'm a reporter from Ridu Today! Do you have a moment for a quick street interview?

The following is recorded in the Partner Archive
Trust "Interview Incident"

Story Description: Seth accidentally accepted a street live interview, but ended up driving the reporter away with his blunders. That being said, some "rules" are not necessarily meant to be understood...

Seth: Street interview? Me?
Street Reporter: Wow, it seems a hardworking Public Security officer is willing to grace us with an interview! Please listen carefully to the question...
Street Reporter: Are you happy?
Seth: Sure? My name is Seth Low— Wait a minute. I didn't agree to be interviewed by you!
Street Reporter: Relax, buddy! This isn't rocket science! Let's zoom in a bit on our handsome officer. Come on, smile for the camera~
Seth: Huh? *sigh*
Street Reporter: You must not have heard our question clearly, kind officer. We just wanted to ask...
Street Reporter: In New Eridu, where everyone lives and works in peace and contentment, in the prosperous Janus District, and in the dazzling Lumina Square, do you feel happy?
Seth: ...No.
Street Reporter: Wh... Haha, how could that be? As a Public Security officer, surely you must know that we Janus Quarter citizens have always topped the charts when it comes to our happiness index scores...
Seth: Hasn't our ranking been slipping since the second quarter of last year?
Street Reporter: Huh? Ahem, what the officer is trying to say is that we are not to be outdone, despite stiff competition among districts.
Seth: I didn't say that. Speaking from what I know about public security statistics, the case closure rate across the entire Janus Quarter for the last three periods has risen by 1 to 2 percent on average...
Street Reporter: That's right! An uptick in cases closed means a safer Janus Quarter! We're truly making great progress~
Seth: Not really. The increase is actually due to the significant drop in the number of cases handled. The media only pays attention to the number of new cases and case closure rate, but if we look at the average number of cases handled daily...
Seth: ...Hold on, why're you grabbing the mic from me? I haven't finished yet. If we look at the average number of cases handled daily, we can see that the drop in the number of new cases could very well be due to tampering—
Street Reporter: Cut, stop rolling!!!
Street Reporter: Officer, we should be helping each other out here. Why are you making things so difficult for me?
Street Reporter: Since you're such a good-looking guy, I don't mind doing Public Security a favor. So why are you messing with me? Do you have beef with me? Do you want me to lose my job?!
Seth: I don't even know you... Why would I want you to lose your job?
Seth: I haven't finished answering your question. Don't you need to take my picture or something?
Street Reporter: ...
Street Reporter: One of us must have a few screws loose...
The reporter shoots Seth a fierce glare before exiting in a huff with the cameraman, leaving you and Seth staring at each other in bewilderment.
Seth: I'm confused... Why would anyone just call themselves crazy like that?
Icon Dialogue Talk (I want to laugh... but I have to hold it back...)
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍...Pfft... No, it's nothing. It's just... Seth, you're right... Hahahah......Pfft... No, it's nothing. It's just... Seth, you're right... Hahahah... / ...No, I can't help it anymore... Hahahahaha!...No, I can't help it anymore... Hahahahaha!‍)
Seth: It's funny, right? She asked me a question, wouldn't even let me answer, then stormed off cursing under her breath. Clearly, she has some issues she needs to work through.
Icon Dialogue Talk Maybe that's not what she meant.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍That comment was probably aimed at you, but it ended up backfiring. Turns out she's not the sharpest tool in the shed. That comment was probably aimed at you, but it ended up backfiring. Seth: I don't get it. She insists that I answer questions that she won't let me answer. She's definitely the one with the problem.
Seth: But why did she say that I was trying to get her fired? I didn't even want to be interviewed, yet I still answered her question seriously. I was obviously trying to help her out. Why would she accuse me like that?
Icon Dialogue Talk She didn't like your answer.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Sometimes, reporters ask questions only to get the answers they want to hear. She assumed you would play along, seeing as you're a Public Security officer. She didn't expect you would take the interview so seriously, and your answer didn't line up with the one she had in mind.Sometimes, reporters ask questions only to get the answers they want to hear. Seth: Play along? Why even ask, if you don't want to hear people's answers in the first place...
Seth: ...Am I failing to read between the lines again?
Icon Dialogue Talk Your answer can't be aired.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): If all that stuff you were citing was broadcast on TV it might've been a bad look for Public Security...But as a citizen, I'd be more than willing to hear you out.
Seth: ..."A bad look"... Sounds like something that guy would say.
Seth: If I'd gone along with what the reporter wanted, isn't that just acting? Are there some unspoken rules that I'm not aware of?
(Both choices lead to the following)
Icon Dialogue Talk You're not wrong.
Icon Dialogue Talk Your straightforwardness is a good thing.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍It's not your fault. It's everyone else's... Just kidding. It's not your fault. It's everyone else's... Just kidding. / You're not wrong. The world is wrong... Just kidding~You're not wrong. The world is wrong... Just kidding~‍)
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Seriously though. Some rules may not be right, but people just aren't bold enough to say so. Seth: Straightforward? Honestly, I'm more often described as "having difficulty understanding human language"...
Seth: I don't think I was in the wrong either.
Seth: Anyway, thanks for the words of encouragement, Manager...
Icon Dialogue Talk Don't mention it.
Icon Dialogue Talk That's what friends are for.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Hehe, that's what friends are for.Hehe, that's what friends are for. / Oh, don't mention it! That's what friends are for.Oh, don't mention it! That's what friends are for.‍)
Seth: F—Friends?
Icon Dialogue Talk Only if you're up for it.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍If you agree, then we're friends, right? If you agree, then we're friends, right? / Huh? I thought we were friends already... Of course, only if you're up for it.Huh? I thought we were friends already... Of course, only if you're up for it.‍)
Seth: Th—That's fine...
Seth: So we're friends...
Icon Dialogue Talk I'm hurt.
(ProtagonistProtagonist): (‍Oh man, don't you feel the same way? I feel a little hurt.Oh man, don't you feel the same way? I feel a little hurt. / I'm hurt... Don't tell me you don't feel the same! Seth: No, that's not it at all! It's just, all so sudden... And I thought...
Seth: ...You're right, we are friends.
Seth: I'll visit you on Sixth Street the next time I get the chance. I—I gotta get back to the precinct now! Bye, Manager!
You watch Seth slink away as if he's on the lam. You've gained another friend in Public Security.

Trivia

  • There's a pun lost in translation. In Chinese, the reporter asks Seth, "你幸福吗?" Nǐ xìngfú ma?, "Are you happy?" which he misunderstands as "你姓符吗?" Nǐ xìng Fú ma?, "Is your surname Fu?"" because they sound the same. Confused, he then responds, "啊? 我姓洛……" Á? Wǒ xìng Luò……, "Huh? My surname is Lo……"
