Dialogue
- (Idle)
- Blake: It's you! The one I've been looking for... it's you!
- Pan Yinhu: Who? Me?
- (Talk to Pan Yinhu)
- Blake: Those perfectly placed dark circles... those fluffy, chubby paws... that hefty build that'd barely squeeze through Yum Cha Sin's door... After searching high and low, I've finally found you!
- Blake: You're—you're the Panda Thiren of New Eridu!
- Pan Yinhu: Um... could you not state such obvious facts with such an over-the-top tone?
- Blake: No, you don't understand! I'm Blake, a film director, and I'm making a movie about a Panda Thiren! You are the one and only lead I've been looking for!
Oh, so you're a film director.
And here I thought you were a big Thiren fan.- Pan Yinhu: Ah, Junior (WiseWise /
BelleBelle), perfect timing. I was just walking around after picking up groceries and got flagged down by this guy. - Pan Yinhu: Senior Fufu being in a movie is one thing, but me? I can't handle being in front of the camera! Come on, let's head back to Suibian Temple!
Why don't you give it a try, senior?
I can tell from your face that you're dying to try it.- Pan Yinhu: W-what nonsense are you talking about! I'm just a cook that throws a few punches now and then. I'm no movie guy! It's just a silly thought. Let's go home!
- Blake: Wait! At least hear how much I'm willing to pay you!
- Pan Yinhu: ...How much?
- Senior Yinhu leaned in as Blake whispered a string of numbers. He gave a slight cough, took the script from Blake's hands, and stepped right in front of the camera.
- Pan Yinhu: Well, if you insist... guess I can try a few takes.
- Blake: Perfect! Let me give you a quick intro to the protagonist, the character you'll be playing—a Panda Thiren with a mysterious past, "The Two-Faced Panda Man"!
- Pan Yinhu: The Two-faced Panda Man? Why is he called that?
- Blake: Don't interrupt me, let [sic] listen! The Two-Faced Panda Man wandered alone as a child, until one day, he accidentally fell into a Corruption-infested hot spring in the Hollow, and gained a special ability...
- Blake: When he comes in contact with hot water, he transforms from a Panda Thiren into a human! And when he touches cold water, he changes back! On top of that, he's a total pro at drinking Nitro-Fuel, earning him the nickname "The Panda Nitro-Fuel Sage"!
- Pan Yinhu: Huh? What Panda Thiren can shapeshift like that? Besides, I've never heard of any Panda Thiren famous for chugging Nitro-Fuel...
- Blake: Creative license, my friend. Don't over think it, just follow the script! There'll be plenty of scenes with him drinking Nitro-Fuel, so be ready for that!
I don't know how I feel about this...
Senior, maybe we should back out...- Pan Yinhu: Well... there really aren't enough films about Panda Thiren. Since I already said yes, I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. Let me try reading these lines first.
- Blake: Alright! First take. And... action!
- Pan Yinhu: "Loneliness. Loneliness fills my heart... all because I am a Panda Thiren. Only hot water can make me human again. Only Nitro-Fuel can fill my empty soul... all because I am a Panda Thiren!"
- Pan Yinhu: "But my destiny is about to change! I heard there's a master up on a distant mountain... I'll seek him out and become his disciple. Surely he'll show me where a Panda Thiren belongs!"
- Pan Yinhu: "From this day forward, I'm no longer a Panda Thiren... I shall become the Two-Faced Panda Man! Let this Nitro-Fuel bear witness... Damn it, why isn't it hot?!"
- Blake: Alright, cut! The line delivery is a bit stiff, but the vibe is perfect! As expected, you're my destined Two-Faced Panda Man... Now, please follow me to the next setup, let's try scene two!
Senior, are you okay?- Pan Yinhu: How should I put this... it's okay, I guess. Maybe it'll get better later?
- Pan Yinhu: Junior (WiseWise /
BelleBelle), would you like to come with me?
Of course!- Pan Yinhu: *Phew* Thanks... At least that puts my mind at ease a bit. To be honest, I was kinda worried he might be some hardcore Thiren fan...
- (Idle)
- Blake: Now, let's get started with the next scene...
- Pan Yinhu: Here? At the construction site? For real?
- (Talk to Pan Yinhu)
- Blake: For our next scene, I've brought in two extras — let me introduce you to Mr. Ben and Mr. Mishka from Belobog Heavy Industries.
- Pan Yinhu: Huh, Ben? You guys changing careers now?
- Mishka: We were born for civil engineering! Booming industry, bright future - why would we change?!
- Ben: (Mr. WiseMr. Wise /
Miss BelleMiss Belle), long time no see. Pan, so you're the protagonist Mr. Blake was talking about... - Ben: We were just working when this gentleman suddenly approached us, asking us to cameo in his movie. In return, Belobog Heavy Industries would get a mention in the credits.
- Ben: It was a chance for free publicity for the company, so we took it. We waited at the construction site for Mr. Blake to bring the actor playing the protagonist.
- Mishka: Director, what's the scene? How do you want us to play this?
- Blake: *ahem* Let me give you a quick rundown of the plot. We've already filmed the scene where Two-Faced Panda Man embarks on a lonely journey to find the legendary master. But his strength alone isn't enough...
- Blake: And so he wanders into a jungle where he meets two companions—a Brown Bear Thiren and a Polar Bear Thiren!
A concrete jungle counts as a jungle, I guess...- Blake: It's just a rehearsal, this is not the real set! Anyway, you three need to coexist peacefully in this jungle for now!
- Pan Yinhu: Director, we just started this journey, and we're already settling down in the jungle? What about finding the master?
- Blake: Don't worry, we'll get there! But first, we need a feel-good moment to get the audience fall in love with Two-Faced Panda Man - this scene does exactly that!
- Blake: Hey, you three! Can you try stacking yourselves top to bottom? Mr. Ben on top, Mr. Pan in the middle, and Mr. Mishka at the bottom—then strike a cute pose for the camera!
This feels... suspiciously familiar...- Blake: That's the point! The more recognizable the scene is to the audience, the more they'll love it—add in those three adorable goofballs, and boom, instant crowd favorite!
- Ben: Director, with all due respect, but my face wasn't exactly built for acting cute...
- Mishka: With both their weights on top of me? Director, are you trying to kill me?! Even one of them is enough to crush the life outta me!
- Pan Yinhu: Director, I may not know much about filmmaking... but is this kind of scene really necessary to make the audience fall in love with the protagonist?
- Pan Yinhu: Since the Two-Faced Panda Man is a martial hero, helping people and fighting for justice on the way should be something the audience would love, right? I know some kung fu and pressure point techniques, so action scenes shouldn't be a problem—
- Blake: No! You haven't even met the master or become his disciple yet, so where'd you learn those moves? We can't shoot these action scenes until after you've actually trained under him!
- Pan Yinhu: ...
- Ben: But Director, having us shoot scenes where we're stacked together is still kinda...
- Blake: I see... Okay, I'll rewrite this scene later. But I'm still insisting on keeping you three's parts.
- Blake: Let's head back to Failume Heights to film the next scene. Mr. Ben, Mr. Mishka, I'll come visit again after I revise the script.
- Ben: Oh... okay... (Mr. WiseMr. Wise /
Miss BelleMiss Belle), Pan, take care... - Pan Yinhu: Uh, right... we'll be heading out now...
Senior...?- Pan Yinhu: I'm fine, even though it was a wasted trip... but hey, at least we got some fresh air. Oh well, maybe the next scene will be better...
- (Idle)
- Blake: This scene is about the master...
- Pan Yinhu: Finally, it's about to happen!
- (Talk to Pan Yinhu)
- Blake: Alright, even though we didn't finish that last scene, here's how the story goes: The Two-Faced Panda Man spent some happy days with the other two Bear Thirens...
- Blake: ...but in the end, he bids them farewell and continues his journey alone, searching for the master.
- Pan Yinhu: Huh? Why not bring those two along?
- Blake: Because the Two-Faced Panda Man is destined to be alone. He doesn't need companions.
- Pan Yinhu: ...
- Blake: Long story short, after going through a whole bunch of ups and downs, he finally finds the secluded mountain and meets the master.
- Pan Yinhu: Ohh! Where's the master at?
- Blake: That's the turtle right in front of you.
- Pan Yinhu: ...Huh?
- Blake: You know, Turtle Thirens are just as hard to find as Panda Thirens, so we had to make do with a wild turtle for now. I'll sync up the lip movements in post to make him talk.
- Blake: Anyway, the lonely Two-Faced Panda Man begins intense training with the master, trying to overcome his curse of turning back into a Panda Thiren whenever he touches cold water, fighting hard to shed that "two-faced" identity...
- Pan Yinhu: Sorry, director. I don't think I can be in this movie after all.
- Blake: Huh? Why?
- Pan Yinhu: A Panda Thiren doesn't need a turtle master to learn kung fu.
- Pan Yinhu: Panda Thirens have thick skin and tough flesh - we don't make a big fuss about water being hot or cold, and we definitely don't dream of becoming human by pouring hot water on ourselves or through any other means.
- Pan Yinhu: Not all Panda Thirens love drinking Nitro-Fuel, Panda Thirens are omnivores, and more importantly—
- Pan Yinhu: Panda Thirens are never loners! I want friends by my side, and right now, I have them!
- Pan Yinhu: No offense, but I can't be in your movie! If Panda Thirens are gonna be shown to all of New Eridu, it should be our story, not some made-up fantasy you dreamed up.
- Blake: What nonsense are you talking about! Art isn't the same as real life! I'm making a movie that will go down in history - if I just stick to reality, where's the appeal in that?
But that so-called movie plot of yours...
It's just a mish-mash of old movies, isn't it?- Blake: Urgh...!
It's a mix of every trope out there.
Just taking shortcuts and chasing clout for the sake of going viral.- Blake: So what! That's none of you actors' business anyway...
- Pan Yinhu: No, after hearing what you said, I'm even more convinced that my choice was right. I don't want to live in someone else's... or in any of your imagined Panda Thiren stories.
- Pan Yinhu: I've got my own story to tell. Sure, I'm just a cook, and my techniques might not match my fellow disciples... but this is still my story - the story of a Panda Thiren.
- Pan Yinhu: Sorry, Director, but I'll have to ask you to leave. Good thing we haven't signed any official contracts yet - we can still part ways with no hard feelings.
- Blake: Tch... fine, forget it! In a city as big as New Eridu, I'm sure I'll find plenty of Panda Thirens and Turtle Thirens around!
- Director Blake walked off, muttering to himself and lugging his gear, leaving Senior Yinhu and you standing there
- Pan Yinhu: Sorry about that, Junior (WiseWise /
BelleBelle). I dragged you into one heck of a mess...
You were super cool just now, Senior Yinhu!- Pan Yinhu: Oh come on, stop saying that! You're making me blush... Let's head back to Suibian Temple.
- Pan Yinhu: Say, as a video store manager, could you share your expert opinion... do you think we'll ever see a movie about Panda Thirens that's free from all the stereotypes and made-up nonsense?
Of course!- Pan Yinhu: Haha... if you say so, then I believe it! One day, everyone in New Eridu will see it...
- Pan Yinhu: ...A Panda Thiren is never alone - he's always rolling with his awesome crew!
- Trust Rank Upgrade to Close with Pan Yinhu
- (Idle)
- Pan Yinhu: Come to think of it...
- (Talk to Pan Yinhu again, optional)
- Pan Yinhu: Come to think of it, Senior Fufu must've had it rough filming that movie... Are all directors like that?
- Pan Yinhu: Alright, I'll make her favorite char siu bao for dinner tonight! And of course, you're getting some too!
Trivia
- Step 1 is a reference to the manga series Ranma ½ where Genma Saotome, the father of the titular protagonist, fell into a magical hot spring that cursed him to change into a panda whenever he came into contact with cold water, whereas hot water would revert him to human form.
- Step 2 is a reference to the 2015 American cartoon We Bare Bears, in which the main characters are a grizzly bear, panda bear, and polar bear who occasionally stack on top of one another.
- Step 3 is a reference to the 2008 animated film Kung Fu Panda, in which an anthropomorphic panda is chosen to become the Dragon Warrior by the tortoise Grand Master.
