Descartes

Last updated 2026-08-09

Descartes is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the Event Story Quest The Magic That Never Fails in Phantasmal Pals: Part III - The Magic That Never Fails. He is Prune's imaginary friend.

Profile

Descartes was imagined into existence by Prune when she realized she had no one to talk to about the books she read.[2] Eventually, Alice noticed that Descartes was on the verge of disappearing due to Prune abandoning her childlike innocence and trying to grow up too quickly. In the hopes of restoring Prune's innocence and saving Descartes, Alice pretended to kidnap him and told Prune that she had to go to Mondstadt and "defeat all the witches" of the Hexenzirkel to save her friend. Prune has sworn revenge against Alice ever since.[3][1]

After Prune accepted Klee's invitation into the Little Hexenzirkel, Descartes was restored, much to Prune's relief. After Descartes explained the situation, however, Prune realized that Alice's previous provocation towards her was a trick all along and became more infuriated by her than before.[1]

Appearance

Descartes is a small purple dog with a darker-colored snout, ear tips, and paws. He wears a pink collar with a bone on it, and leg guards that are similar in design to Prune's boots.
