Description

The wind of change was sweeping across the boundless land. Beyond the northern winds, the heavens blazed with stars.
Upon the frozen earth stood a city stronger than heaven itself, and where peoples of every nation had gathered as one.

Here, they labored for dreams that had faded even before they could be fulfilled. Here, they labored for descendants they would never meet.
Here, they labored for promises their creators had never kept. Here, they labored for the stars they sought to reach in the future.
The progress that was born of wisdom from beyond the world was, at this point, already outpacing a century of gains with each passing day.
The human spirit yearns for all things new, as every young race once did in its innocence.

Many a taboo, once considered inviolable, was now being broken, just as every overreaching desire was being fulfilled.
They sought the roots of human evolution, so that a new generation might rise with sharper minds and stronger bodies.
They traced the headwaters of every tongue, carrying truths once veiled by the sky to every corner of the world.
The mysteries once deemed as blasphemous were now spoken of freely to children in their classrooms.
The sky had never felt so close, so close that they even believed they could challenge it...

But this is no fairy tale of inheritance passed from father to son; the judgment of the master of the heavens does not wait for mortals to gather their strength.
Given enough time, they might indeed give rise to something great, something that could surpass all fate and design.
But what of it? This world had never been prepared for them. That is the final verdict.
Once the fall towards temptation begins, no matter what path they take, the result is one and the same.

Free will invites nothing but uncertainty and calamity. Such is the truth taught by the cold laws of the cosmos.
The mortals who stray beyond their bounds must be dealt with, just as wayward branches upon a tree must be pruned.

But is this truly the only answer to the ultimate question?
Are miracles not termed thus precisely because they defy all reason?
Yet for those of a bygone age, the chance to seek that answer was already no more...
