Imunlaukr

Imunlaukr was a historical figure that lived in Sal Vindagnyr at the time of its fall.
He is also the namesake of the Imunlaukr Clan, one of the founding clans of Barbatos' Mondstadt after Barbatos became the Anemo Archon 2,600 years ago.
Story
Little is known about Imunlaukr's origins; however, the people of Sal Vindagnyr refer to him as an "outlander,"[1] indicating that he was not native to the region. At some point, he settled in Sal Vindagnyr and grew close to its princess, the daughter of the city's priest, Varuch.
After the Skyfrost Nail fell from the heavens and drastically changed the environment of the once-verdant land, Imunlaukr departed in search of a branch of Irminsul to save the nation.[2][3] The princess gave him the Snow-Tombed Starsilver greatsword, intending for him to use it to shatter the ice and snow that had engulfed Sal Vindagnyr. While he was away, she prepared the fourth fresco in the mural room to preserve his likeness and await his return.[4][5]
By the time he returned to Sal Vindagnyr, its inhabitants, the princess among them, had perished, and the great hall held nothing but deathly echoes. Greatly aggrieved and disillusioned, he left his greatsword between the frescoes and descended the mountain. Consumed by confusion and folly, he sought a land filled with war and strife he could lose himself in battle.[4][6]
In his pursuit of the joy of conflict, he shattered snow-covered mountains with his spear and brought ruin to three thriving kingdoms, leaving vast lands desolate and countless survivors wandering the wastes. The survivors of the ruined lands subsequently regarded Imunlaukr as the sworn enemy of their fallen peoples and hunted him relentlessly. For the warrior who had claimed a craving to entertain the gods with strains of strife and blood, this was the moment he finally ceased longing for salvation and turned away from the life of a warrior forever.[6]
His fate thereafter is unknown, though he had descendants who would eventually form the Imunlaukr Clan.[7]
Trivia
- Imunlaukr's name likely originates from an Old Norse stanza by Norwegian skald Eyvindr Finnsson skáldaspillir, in which he used ímun-laukr, literally "war-leek," as a kenning for a sword. The same stanza, in turn, uses Ullr ímunlauks ("Ullr of the sword") as a kenning for a warrior, which matches his description.
- It's likely that Imunlaukr fought creatures from the Abyss during his time away from the mountain, as he returned with black blood dripping from his weapon, which is similar to the description of the Mondstadt expedition to Khaenri'ah to face the monsters spreading from there.[8]
