Lord Lawrence

Lord Lawrence was the leader of Mondstadt's Lawrence Clan a thousand years ago and the father of Barca Lawrence. His tyrannical rule was overthrown by Vennessa and her rebellion, with the aid of Barbatos.^[1]

Profile

Lord Lawrence was a cruel and tyrannical ruler who controlled Mondstadt with an iron fist. When Vennessa's tribe sought refuge from Ursa the Drake, Lord Lawrence took them in, only to enslave them. Ten years later, in the Manga's Prologue, Vennessa offended Lord Lawrence's son, Barca, by defending Venti — unbeknownst to both, a disguised Barbatos — after he purposely provoked Barca during Ludi Harpastum. Lord Lawrence retaliated by forcing Vennessa into a gladiator tournament, promising her tribe's freedom should she win. However, he secretly promised Ursa the Drake that he would offer Vennessa and her entire tribe as sacrifices in exchange for peace from Ursa's attacks.^[1]

Vennessa's final battle pitted her and her tribe against Ursa the Drake and its hilichurl minions; when Mondstadters protested the injustice and began to riot, Lord Lawrence threatened to throw them into the ring as well. He also had his archers kill the tribespeople who attempted to retreat into the city walls. Enraged, Vennessa turned her efforts towards Ursa the Drake and its minions. In the midst of her desperation, Venti revealed his identity and powers, empowering Vennessa's attacks and forcing Ursa into retreating. According to the Manga, after Vennessa's victory, Barbatos forced Lord Lawrence into upholding his promise of handing control of Mondstadt over to Vennessa.^[1]

In reality, Vennessa's rebellion was a more protracted affair, including an incident where Barbatos tricked the aristocracy's troops into rebelling by spreading a forged treaty that allegedly sold all of Mondstadt — including the people themselves — to Rex Lapis.^[2]

Appearance

Lord Lawrence is an adult man with short black hair with a white fringe. He has blue eyes and a white beard. He wears a pair of white gloves and a formal suit with a cravat.
