Tarafa was an Eremite who was part of the Tanit tribe who was the main author of the Pathfinders' Log, a series of interactables found in the Desert of Hadramaveth, Great Red Sand, Sumeru.
Profile
Several years before the start of the game, Tarafa was sent by Matriarch Babel to help explore the ruins of Gurabad in the hopes of finding the Eternal Oasis that their people spoke of. However, Tarafa's true objective was to eliminate the other members of the expedition group, who were all adherents of King Deshret,[1] as part of Babel's plot to consolidate power for herself.
Out of the expedition's five other members, Tarafa succeeded in killing three: Umur was caught up in a cyclone, Bahaddin was killed by Red Vultures, and Rabeed was killed by a scorpion. To avoid suspicion, Tarafa constantly proclaimed that the journey was cursed, and posed the three deaths as unfortunate accidents. However, Jebrael grew suspicious and successfully faked his death in order to avoid Tarafa's scrutiny, then ambushed and killed Tarafa before Samail could be slain.
Before his death, Tarafa discovered that the keystone, a treasure left behind in Gurabad's ruins, actually existed — contrary to Babel's claims.[2] He was killed before he could make use of it, however, and Jebrael decided to abandon both the keystone and the Scarlet Sand Slate in spite of Samail's opinions. Realizing that they were not safe with Babel, both of them left the Tanit.[1]
