- Zyanya is the wife of Mixtli, the protagonist of the historical fiction novel Aztec by Gary Jennings. She's implied to be of Zapotec origin. In the novel, the author says the name means "forever."
- Zyanya is the name of a Zapotec-inspired character featured in the Mexican-American show Onyx Equinox.
- It's believed that the name Zyanya could have roots in Zapotec or Aztec languages; although there are some phonetic discrepancies and a lack of evidence to confirm this.
