Location

Gameplay Notes

  • The player must wait until daily reset to get a message from the "detective".

Dialogue

(Idle dialogue before starting the objective)
Billboard Investigator: Did they murder them for money? Or for revenge?
Billboard Investigator: The traces were wiped clean.
(Investigate the crime scene)
Icon Dialogue Question Investigate
Just what is happening in front of your eyes? You stay stupefied on the spot as your brain rushes to try and make sense of the information.
The answer becomes clear very quickly... You have stumbled across a heinous murder!
Judging from the appearance, the deceased is a cassette tape...
The murderer brutally disemboweled them... You can tell from the large number of dream bubbles floating around the body that the time of death was not long ago.
Not far away, you see a billboard seemingly in deep thought about something.
Billboard Investigator: My young friend, I am sorry that our first meeting is under such dire circumstances.
Billboard Investigator: Allow me to introduce myself, I am Penacony's newest detective... Though I do not have official certification yet...
Billboard Investigator: Though I am ashamed to admit it, I've yet to discover any useful clues for this case...
Billboard Investigator: The culprit was extremely careful. There are no fingerprints, nor are there any signs of struggle on the victim.
Billboard Investigator: If it weren't for the fresh dream bubbles scattered across the ground, I'd almost think that the culprit committed the act somewhere else, and then used a vehicle to abandon the body here.
Billboard Investigator: Did you notice those tapes? It looks like they've been deliberately tangled up. If the culprit had secretly taken a cutting, it would not be easy to tell.
Billboard Investigator: If that's the case, that cassette tape was likely also the motive.
Billboard Investigator: Kill the target, steal the evidence, and remove any clues. The culprit has likely been planning their operation today for a long time...
Icon Dialogue Arrow You're quite the professional.
Billboard Investigator: You're too kind. I've just done a little reading into this kind of thing.
Icon Dialogue Arrow We're counting on you, great detective!
Billboard Investigator: Oh no, I just dabble in this kind of thing.
Billboard Investigator: Could I possibly ask you to be my assistant on this case? I'm just a billboard after all. A lot of things are a lot more convenient for you than for me.
Billboard Investigator: I know that I am a little slow-witted, but with your help, maybe I could at least do something for the deceased.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Well, I'm already involved now.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Let's do our best.
Icon Dialogue Arrow You can rest assured with me around.
Billboard Investigator: Thank you for your kindness. I'll try to piece the clues together. Would you be able to go and interview the witnesses around here and see whether they have any important leads?
Billboard Investigator: The popcorn and soda couples are residents here, they should know something about our victim. Also, there's a group of popcorn and soda detectives that will be heading to the scene. Maybe they'll have some insights that can help us.

(Idle dialogue during investigation)
Billboard Investigator: The tape cutting...
Billboard Investigator: If they wanted to take it away from the scene...
(Approach the popcorn and soda detectives)
Icon Dialogue Question Investigate
Sugar-Free Soda: It seems that they all lack the discerning eyes to see the truth.
Original-Flavor Popcorn: Indeed, Brother Sugar-Free. They are all too sweet. The sugar in their minds has made their brains sticky.
Sugar-Free Soda: In this whole world, only you truly understand me, Brother Original-Flavor.
Original-Flavor Popcorn: The culprit did not intend to kill him. They just accidentally hit the victim with their car while driving. Unaware of what had happened, they continued to drag the victim forward with their car, which is why this tape had been stretched so far.
Sugar-Free Soda: You are correct, Brother Original-Flavor, but there is one thing I might add.
Sugar-Free Soda: This car in particular was an extremely luxurious limousine, one that only the richest in Penacony could afford.
Original-Flavor Popcorn: You are surely a master detective, Brother Sugar-Free. Pray tell, how did you come to this conclusion for that detail?
Sugar-Free Soda: It is simple. I happened to witness them driving away when I arrived.
(Approach the soda couple)
Icon Dialogue Question Investigate
Fizzy Soda: That darned kid, always playing songs super loud in the middle of the night! If I wasn't too lazy to move, I'd have gone out there and introduced him to my hammer.
Flat Soda: Sweetheart, calm down. What if someone hears you and thinks you are the murderer?
Flat Soda: Let's just go on with our lives and not sink to those nasty gangsters' level.
Fizzy Soda: I'd love to calm down, but that little runt borrowed a thousand Alfalfa credits from me and hasn't returned it!
Fizzy Soda: If he didn't gamble that money away, he must have spent it getting drunk and partying with those local thugs!
Flat Soda: Let's head back home. Last night, his terrible gutter music was so loud, I'm still exhausted. I've lost all my fizz.
Fizzy Soda: Now you've wound me up again saying that! I should head over there and give him a good kicking!
Flat Soda: Alright, alright, let's go home. Don't let people see you causing a scene.
(Approach the popcorn couple)
Icon Dialogue Question Investigate
Caramel Popcorn: What're you lookin' at me for? That kid was gonna get what was comin' to him one day. Lookin' at this grisly scene, looks like one of his enemies finally got their revenge.
Butter Popcorn: He was just a little tape that worked so hard to make it here, then he ended up having his wages cut by a cruel boss and getting fired! He may have gone off the rails for a while, but that's understandable, don't you think?
Caramel Popcorn: Where'd ya hear that version of the story? He told ya that himself?
Caramel Popcorn: He never did any work. He'd just spin his tape 'n' play songs all day. The boss couldn't take it, so he gave him the boot!
Caramel Popcorn: Word on the streets is that he even secretly got a big payout from the boss 'cos he caught him sayin' somethin' on tape.
Caramel Popcorn: If ya ask me, I reckon that tape's boss probably hired guys to take 'im out.
(Discuss with the detective after hearing all three accounts)
Icon Dialogue Question Billboard Investigator
Billboard Investigator: Thank you. With your hard work, we will be able to bring the culprit to justice.
Billboard Investigator: I saw you standing by those two popcorns for a while. Did you overhear any information?
Icon Dialogue Arrow He and his boss have had disagreements.
You repeat the conversation to the detective exactly as you heard it.
Billboard Investigator: A bit of a problematic character, huh? It seems like the boss had been blackmailed by him for some time and had reason to want to silence him.
Billboard Investigator: Cutting the tape is also to destroy the dirt the deceased held on him.
Billboard Investigator: Although, we are not ready to reach a final conclusion yet. Let's keep searching for clues.
Icon Dialogue Arrow His boss is the murderer.
You exaggeratedly explain the boss's grudge against the victim.
Billboard Investigator: A unique perspective, but if it really was his boss, would they really have killed him in a way that draws so much attention? It's hard to judge for now.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't worry about the case. Just go and play.
Billboard Investigator: My friend, now is not the time for jokes. The deceased is waiting for us to bring him justice.
Billboard Investigator: What about that soda couple? What did they say?
Icon Dialogue Arrow They said there was loud music playing last night.
You relay the soda couple's conversation to the detective word-for-word.
Billboard Investigator: Intelligent life forms can easily grow violent under exposure to environments with loud noise. Not all crimes must have an obvious motive, after all.
Billboard Investigator: But with the preparation that the culprit must have gone to, it is hard to imagine that this was just a moment of passion. The music was likely a way to cover up his movements. Let's go and listen out for more clues.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The soda is the murderer!
You embellish Mr. Soda's rage regarding the victim.
Billboard Investigator: Indeed, if the soda was deliberately having this conversation in front of you, it is likely that they were putting on an act with their wife in order to wash their hands of any suspicion. Let me think about this a little more.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't worry about the case. Just go and play.
Billboard Investigator: My friend, though playing games is not a crime, there is a time and a place for it.
Billboard Investigator: What about our different-flavored friends over there? I see they have some opinions on the case.
Icon Dialogue Arrow There was a luxury limousine that passed through here.
You share the "great detectives' deduction" with the detective.
Billboard Investigator: Their conjecture does indeed make sense. It also fits with the circumstances found at the crime scene.
Billboard Investigator: But why would a luxury limousine be going through here? Were they just passing through? If they hit the victim, would the driver really be unaware?
Billboard Investigator: This theory is a little forced, but I might have grasped onto something.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The culprit is... you!
Billboard Investigator: With the case you've put forward, it is not impossible. As the detective on this case, I am the last person people would suspect as the culprit.
Billboard Investigator: Unfortunately, I had neither the time nor the motive to commit this murder. Let's get back to the problem at hand.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't worry about the case. Just go and play.
Billboard Investigator: A fine suggestion. Once this case is solved, I'll make time to get some good rest in.
Billboard Investigator: Some things about this case are rushing around my mind, but as soon as I reach out to put them together, they are gone again.
Billboard Investigator: Let me gather my thoughts, my friend. I see you are tired, too. Perhaps we should leave it here for now. If there is any further information, I will let you know.
Billboard Detective hangs his head and leaves as if deep in thought.

Go on.
Love to hear it.
NPC Billboard Investigator Icon
Billboard Investigator
The Ruff Tape was the killer, not the victim.
He lured the boss with the excuse of giving him the evidence and killed him.
With the loud music, the witnesses all assumed the tape was the victim.
Of course, aside from the sounds they play, all the tapes in Penacony look the same.
Finally, he put his boss's tape inside himself, stealing the other's sound and identity before fleeing the scene.
The key clue was that the tape inside his body had been fixed before.
What about the boss' secret?
Character Trailblazer (Destruction) Icon
(Trailblazer)
Even in the end, I have no clue what his boss had on him.
NPC Billboard Investigator Icon
Billboard Investigator
Ah, don't think about that stuff.
That's one vicious tape.
Character Trailblazer (Destruction) Icon

They're supposed to be cassette tapes. How could they be so cruel?

That's why we're needed.
