Which restaurant tastes bad, exactly?

Gao Tang: Which one's bad? ...You're funny.

Gao Tang: I'd suggest for all the chefs in Starskiff Haven to compete in a culinary showdown. Those who lose must close their restaurants.

Gao Tang: The ones who win through sheer luck will have to pit their skills against me. I will personally drive all the chefs here out.

You're a chef too?

Gao Tang: Sort of. Though I'm just a regular customer here today.

Gao Tang: I don't really like telling people I'm a chef here. I mean, you can get a cooking job at Starskiff Haven as long as you have a pulse and know how to boil water.

Gao Tang: I both pity and love my passion, which is why I must draw the line with these amateurs. I hope you understand.

Are you a gastronome?

Gao Tang: You misunderstand. I am but a foodie who sometimes cooks. I have specially come here today to widen my culinary horizons on the Starskiff Haven.

Gao Tang: Ordinary folks could never figure out how to make such terrible dishes even if they tried. Therefore, they must have some secret condiment that I have yet to learn.

Gao Tang: ...It's not salty, nor bland, nor spicy, nor sweet — it is the epitome of "yuck." It is not a culinary state that mortals can attain.

Gao Tang: I am Gao Tang, and I own a private kitchen in Xianzhou called the Garden of Gourmet. It may be a hole-in-the-wall restaurant, but compared to the rest of the Starskiff Haven, my humble restaurant respects all its customers.

Gao Tang: If your tummy is even the least bit hungry, I suggest you find another place this instant, or you will be hostage to your hunger, and you will be forced into suffering in this place. It is simply not worth it.

Could your standards be too high?

Gao Tang: You are mistaken. I have long forgotten the number of times I've lost my temper from the terrible food at Starskiff Haven. Is it because my standards are high? Nay, it is a raw, visceral reaction to their food.

Gao Tang: You'll understand once you try... ah, that's not right. It's best if you don't try.

What, so the food you make is tasty?

Gao Tang: Naturally. My dishes taste great.

Gao Tang: I've always struggled with this notion: Is it really fair that my food tastes heavenly compared to Starskiff Haven's chefs? Would they not be ashamed in light of my existence?

Gao Tang: Without stringent selection nor prudent handling of ingredients, I refuse to accept food that has been made haphazardly.

Gao Tang: But don't worry. Starskiff Haven's food does not represent Xianzhou's culinary landscape. You can still find restaurants dedicated to the craft here.

Gao Tang: If nothing else, once you've tried the dishes at the Garden of Gourmet, I'm sure you will lose interest in this subpar fare.

What kind of food does the Garden of Gourmet serve?

Gao Tang: The restaurant's been making sturgeons recently. This type of fish returns once every fifty years, and is a key ingredient in "Five Lords of Anhe River."

Gao Tang: In the Garden of Gourmet, we extract the three crunchiest bones from the tail, boil them in a broth of myriad herbs, then grill them using fresh goat's fat paste. At the final stage, we slow fry them till the meaty bones are caramelized and crisp.

Gao Tang: Any step that's not up to snuff in this process, and I'll dump the dish entirely. This is also why the Garden of Gourmet has no menu — we only serve one table a day.

Gao Tang: No such thing as food too fine, or meat too minced. Those of Xianzhou have lived for a thousand years, we must be meticulous with what goes in our mouths.

Gao Tang: We are all, in some way, shaped by our food. You wouldn't want to be made shoddily, would you?
