Gavis: Huh? How'd you know I just caught a whopping 50-kilogram fish?

Who asked you!?

Gavis: Your eyes are totally asking.

Whoa! That's a huge fish!

Gavis: Hee-hee, you really know how to stroke my ego! Us anglers live for this stuff... Catch someone willing to listen and we just gotta show off our haul.

Gavis: By the way, I've been hanging around this dock for half a year now, and I've never seen you before. Judging by that fancy getup of yours, you must be from some big city, right?

Gavis: Don't tell me you're also weary of the big city hassles and want to return to the simple life in the countryside?

Gavis: Why don't you come fishing with me then? It's easy, relaxing, and keeps your belly full.

I'm too soft-hearted, can't stand to see any killing.

Gavis: But that bat on your back looks like it's seen plenty of action... doesn't exactly scream 'harmless softie' to me.

I'm not ready for retirement yet.

Gavis: You're being way too naive! You don't actually think you'll make it to retirement by working in the big city, do you?

Gavis: And after they've wrung you dry in mind, body, and soul, squeezed out every last drop of value, what do you get? Shown the door with your stuff in a box.

Gavis: Ah, back in the day, just like you, I was full of fire and ambition, ready to make a name for myself in Duomension City.

Gavis: But Duomension City is like a fishing ground that looks bountiful on the surface: You think you'll come back loaded with your catch, but really, you'll just burn through your youth and your fire, left with nothing but an empty basket.

Gavis: You might not get it if I just explain it like this, so I recommend checking out a book by the great Master Fulwish: Happiness: Says Fulwish. Once you read it, everything will click!

I've got some questions about you.

Gavis: What we fishermen have in spades is patience and time. Fire away with your inquiries.

Why'd you move here from Duomension City?

Gavis: I'd say I'm just returning to my old stomping grounds. I was born and raised in Seafeld, you see.

Gavis: Yeah, you've probably guessed it. My story's the classic "small-town kid with big dreams moves to the city, only to get absolutely wrecked by reality at every turn."

Gavis: The only difference is, I had it way worse than the rest... At least the others got to crash in a basement. Me? I was stuck living in the Dovebrook sewers.

Gavis: Back in Duomension City, I only managed to hold on by feeding myself that classic lie: "Suffer now, happiness later." Then I stumbled across one of Master Fulwish's books, and the opening lines just... completely blew my mind.

Gavis: "The secret to happiness is simple: find a cozy spot that keeps the heat in, then rake in 2000 units of Wishpower every day."

Gavis: It hit me like a ton of bricks. My hometown Seafeld is exactly that kind of place! Plenty of sunshine, warm ocean breezes, and the sea was teeming with fish. Perfect for kicking back and coasting until the day my Wishpower finally runs dry.

Gavis: In the end, turns out the happiness I've been chasing all along... I had it from the very start.

Why do you like fishing?

Gavis: You think I'm just fishing? No! It's a way of life.

Gavis: Out on the open sea, there are no callous bosses handing out impossible missions, no arrogant clients giving you attitude. Whether you catch enough fish to fill your belly depends entirely on your own two hands.

Gavis: Even if luck isn't on your side, and you come up empty-handed, the warm sunlight and gentle sea breeze are more than enough to soothe the soul.

Gavis: One person, one ship, one harpoon. No dwelling on the past or stressing about the future, just living in the moment. Life doesn't get any sweeter than that.

Gavis: Of course, there's also a secondary reason: Fishing is the only thing I know how to do.

Let's talk about Fulwish.

Gavis: You mean Master Fulwish? Sorry to say, even though her book was the wake-up call I needed, that's pretty much all I know about her.

Gavis: You know, that super popular book Happiness: Says Fulwish. If you haven't read it yet, trust me, go get it. Right now! Grab yourself a copy!

Gavis: Many of the golden nuggets within will surely make you stop and think, "Wait, this is how I'm supposed to be living!"

Gavis: I even carved her saying, "What you can hold tight is all you truly own," onto my harpoon. So I've got a great mindset when I'm fishing: Even if I miss this shot, at least I've still got another chance to make the next one.

You never thought about joining the Smiles Society?

Gavis: I actually thought about joining her research society or whatever, but then I realized membership means committing to regular meetings... which would cut into my fishing and sunbathing time, so I gave up on that idea.

Gavis: Since I've already decided to quit the grind, I might as well quit with my whole being.
