Dialogue
- (First interaction)
- Jinix: Oh, The Laughter above, the bar exam is just around the corner... Please bless me to pass and become a lawyer!
- Jinix: *sigh* Aaah, I still can't bring myself to read the fortune slip!
Let me look at it for you.- Jinix: Y—You'd do that? That would be perfect! I'm counting on you! I've got a really strong feeling that I'll ace the bar exam this year... I mean, it's my fifth attempt, after all!
- With trembling hands, he passes you a fortune slip. You open it and read the cold, stark message: "Woe."
- Jinix: How are the results?
It's "Great Fortune!"
- Jinix: R-Really!? I knew it, I was feeling particularly refreshed today!
It's mid.
- Jinix: Okay, fine. I'll take midling luck. You know what? It is actually the best fortune, because it means there's still room for improvement!
...It's "Great Woe."
- Jinix: ...Maybe you should check it again? You might have opened it wrongly!
- Jinix: Haha, why aren't you laughing? Cheer up, my friend, worst case I'll just retake it next year! The Laughter must've noticed I've been slacking off lately and is reminding me that every second counts!
You can't trust stuff like that.
- You crumpled up the fortune slip and tossed it away. Wow, that's so cool!
- Jinix: You got that right! If I'd spent all this wishing time studying, I could've knocked out two practice sets by now!
- Jinix: No matter what, I must succeed in becoming a lawyer!
- Jinix: After all, I'm the man who grabbed Past Bar Exam Papers during my first birthday divination ceremony, destined to become a lawyer!
- Jinix: For this dream, I locked myself in that tiny room, went without food, water, or sleep for fourteen straight days, and successfully conquered 927 thesis problems!
- Jinix: See? That's the charm of bar exams: I've transcended human limits!
That's the limits for humans, but not for ghosts.
No wonder you look kinda dead, my friend!- Jinix: Come on, don't joke around! Sure, my heart skipped a beat on day four, but look at me now, I'm still...
- Jinix: Why am I turning transparent!
- Jinix: For those fourteen days, all I could see were exam questions! I didn't notice any of this stuff!
- Jinix: But if I've really turned into a ghost...
- Jinix: The age limit for the imagenae bar exam is super flexible! This means I don't have to worry about aging out! I can keep taking the bar exam forever! I'm so dead lucky!
- (Subsequent interactions)
- Jinix: Thanks to Faekind Protection Act, even ghosts can take the bar exam... Don't worry, even as a ghost, I will still become a lawyer!
Let's have a game of Cosmicon Collective!
- (Open Cosmicon Collective interface}
I'd like to know more about your life...
- Jinix: Sure thing, let's treat it as a mock interview~ But don't give me that look of pity!
Why do you want to be a lawyer?
- Jinix: By The Laughter, being a lawyer is the most envied celestial job in all of Planarcadia!
- Jinix: Actually, when I first graduated five years ago, I boldly ventured into a big corporate life at IPC, trying to be one of those elegant office workers with coffee in one hand and a laptop in the other. That was until I had to do the group interview.
- Jinix: Five fresh graduates were racking their brains over an elementary math problem "1+1=2." One wanted to prove it from first principles, another thought it was IPC's new research direction, and there was even a ploo who made a 70-page PowerPoint presentation about it!
- Jinix: Isn't the answer just "correct"? Making things needlessly complicated, trying to show off... That's just a toxic rat race, a deep-rooted cancer in our society!
- Jinix: But a lawyer? Now that's different. High salary, respect from others, and you get to uphold justice. Now that's the peak of human elation.
- Jinix: So I gave up my job offer from the IPC and swore to become a lawyer!
Ever thought about doing something else?
- Jinix: To be honest, after giving up on IPC, I never really thought about any path other than taking the bar exam.
- Jinix: Everyone says there are plenty of opportunities out there these days. But even as someone who's been excellent all along from Schnider University's affiliated middle school, all the way to graduating with honors from Schnider University's Political Economics Department, there really aren't many things I'm actually good at or capable of doing.
- Jinix: I can't stand all that social etiquette stuff, and I'm terrible at drinking and entertaining... After thinking it through, a fresh graduate like me is definitely best at and most skilled in taking exams!
- Jinix: I can grind practice problems, I love memorizing textbooks, and I'm great at planning my exam time down to the millisecond. Just studying for exams makes me happy. It makes me feel valuable, like I have a future!
- Jinix: Besides, doesn't everyone say getting a law license is the way to go? Why take some sketchy side path when there's a bright, sunny road ahead? Who knows which gutter those other paths might lead to. So yeah, I'm sticking with the bar exam.
- Jinix: Hey friend, what do you do for a living?
I'm a superstar.
I travel all over the place.
I'm spreading good karma everywhere I go.
- Jinix: Sounds like "freelancing" to me? That's way too unstable.
- Jinix: Take my advice: "If you swim in the water too much, you'll eventually run into a ploo." Better grind through more practice questions and find a stable job sooner!
About becoming a ghost...
- Jinix: Ah, when you're deep into grinding practice problems and get into that flow state, you tend to forget about your own body too...
- Jinix: But thinking back to that day now, there were some signs. My heart felt a bit off, but it wasn't that it stopped beating... Quite the opposite, it was racing because I'd just scored the highest marks ever on my test!
- Jinix: My vision went dark for a moment, just a split second, but I immediately forced my eyes back open.
- Jinix: It's about time for my usual call with mom. I've got to tell her the good news!
- Jinix: ...
- Jinix: ...
- Jinix: ...Oh right, my mom... she doesn't know yet...
- Jinix: Better not tell her just yet. Maybe the news of my death will be easier to accept after I become a lawyer.
How's your preparation going?
- Jinix: After five years of failing to the bar exam, I was too ashamed to keep living at home, so I rented a small place just to focus on studying for the exam.
- Jinix: I've been cooped up in my tiny 40-square-foot room all day, not going out, not hanging with friends, just grinding through practice tests. It feels like prison, but hey, at least it's paying off big time!
- Jinix: Now, I can recite the "Planarcadia Bar Exam: Human Edition Past Papers" backwards and forwards!
- Jinix: !!!
- Jinix: Wait... Human Edition?
- Jinix: If I remember correctly... ghosts... should be taking the... Imagenae Edition...
- Jinix: I AM TOTALLY SCREWED!!!!
- Jinix: But that's okay! Since I'm already dead, in other words, time is on my side! Where there's a will, there's a way! Worst case scenario, I'll start over from scratch!
Good luck, catch you later!
- Jinix: You got it, my friend. I won't let your encouragement go to waste. I'll work hard to become a lawyer! If you ever run into any legal conundrums, remember to hit me up for defense!
