Laurel Wreath was a galaxy[Note 1] ruled by the scholars of the Philosopher Union before they were reduced to the domain of inorganic life after the Mechanical Emperor's Wars.[1]
Story
History
During the Mechanical Emperor's Wars, the inorganic lifeforms of the Philosopher Union fell under the influence of the Anti-Organic Equation after Rubert I awakened from their slumber, forcing them into a campaign of mass extermination against organics. This plunged the entire galaxy into a civil war between organic and inorganic lifeforms.[2]
After wiping out numerous planets across the galaxy, the inorganic legions captured and imprisoned Aurelius, the Philosopher King of the Union. A spectacle was staged in the Union's assembly, forcing Aurelius to commit suicide by ingesting poison before the inorganic lifeforms as an act of public humiliation.[3] Left without a leader, the organic lives were soon defeated and the Union was reduced to the domain of inorganic life.[1] The countless number of scholars died in this event led the IPC to deem this occurrence "Rationality's Fall."[2]
Followers of Elation started a riot after the fall of the Union, infecting Rubert's computer system with a troll virus called the "Philosopher's Poison" and overthrowing the local robot army.[1] Later, the Stellaron Hunters disseminated the virus across all of the Golcondar's colonies to take their Stellaron, causing millions of inorganic entities to turn into rampant machines.[4]

Trivia
- Aurelius' name and title likely derive from the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, known for being the last ruler during the Pax Romana period and his Stoic philosophical work, Meditations. The title "Philosopher King" attributed to Aurelius references the concept of a ideal ruler who combines philosophical knowledge and political skill, the philosopher king, a role often associated with Marcus Aurelius by modern scholars.
Etymology
- A laurel wreath is a wreath made of branches and leaves of the bay laurel originating from Ancient Greece. It's a symbol for the master's degree in certain countries.
- In Ancient Greece, laurel wreaths were associated with the Greek god of music, poetry, and archery, Apollo. Thus, they were awarded to victors in athletic, musical, and poetry competitions.
- In Ancient Rome, it was seen as a symbol of military victory, as commanders would be crowned with the wreath on the day of their triumphal march through the city.
Notes
- ↑ While referred to as a galaxy in English, the original Chinese text refers to it as a star system (Chinese: 月桂冠系 Yuèguìguàn Xì, "Laurel Wreath System").
