Alowyn Mystik

Last updated 2026-08-08

Alowyn Mystik is a mentioned NPC who died two years before the events of Zenless Zone Zero.[1] She was the owner of the Bangboo No. 4412.

Profile

Alowyn Mystik, codename No. 4412, was a rebel spy affiliated with The Exaltists[Note 1] working undercover in the White Star Institute. She was described as an "extremely unassuming person" of average height and got average test scores, though she could always get the mission done. She was never happy during her assignment at the Institute, and when she was selected to be in the advance team, only revealed a hint of relief.[2]

History

Two years prior to the start of the game, the Institute organized a Fault Exploration Advance Team to explore the Arpeggio Fault within Hollow Zero and retrieve special Etheric matter kept in the Fourth Laboratory. Alowyn, who had infiltrated the Institute, was chosen to join the team. The rebels tasked her with finding the keycard to the underground vault in the lab, but when she failed, they decided to blow open the vault using mechs with explosives.[3]

On the day of the job, Alowyn left No. 4412 outside of the Hollow instead of taking it with her and told it: "I'm sorry for giving you this name. From now on, please forget about me."[1] She met up with the rebels and headed to the Fourth Laboratory, but they were attacked by a massive Ethereal whose red Etheric "threads" could corrupt people's bodies and consciousness.[4] Alowyn disobeyed orders, reprogramming the mechs to self-destruct near the Ethereal, and left the rebels to save the Institute researchers whom she had grown close with. The ensuing explosion reorganized the structure of the Arpeggio Fault and created the Turbulent Corridor.[3]

Alowyn, who had gotten too close to the Ethereal, was corrupted and couldn't leave the fault without fully becoming an Ethereal herself. She chose to die in the Hollow as a human instead. Her last wish was to be cremated before her remains could be corrupted any further, and she was buried deep within the Turbulent Corridor area.[4] The inscription on her tombstone reads: "Here rests our dear friend Alowyn Mystik. May the flames grant her eternal peace."[5]

Notes

  1. The Exaltists' presence is strongly hinted in Arpeggio Fault Follow-Up Investigation: Where the Mystery Went, and Dancing on Strings reveals that there are Exaltist moles in the White Star Institute.
