Rain is an NPC and an ally of Phaethon. She can be found in the Video Store as Girl in the Gray Hoodie.
Profile
Rain is a brilliant hacker[Note 1] and former member of the Organization. She collaborates with Phaethon and has been a regular member of Random Play video store even before discovering the hidden identity of the owners.
History
After leaving The Organization, Rain became an elite hacker, known for her ability to crack encryption. At some point, she has done business with Nicole Demara,[2] and is an "old friend" and ex-colleague of Evelyn Chevalier, with whom she was in debt after she saved her life in an unspecified moment in the past.[3] She is also an old acquaintance of Vivian Banshee, whom she tried to help with tracking her idol, unaware the person in question was Phaethon.[4] At the end of A Call From the Hollow's Heart (B), Phaethon planned to get in contact with Rain to decrypt the external memory unit found by Belobog Heavy Industries.[2]
In The Midnight Pursuit (B), Rain was kidnapped by The Exaltists,[5] who kept her at the top of the Ballet Twins, where her hacking skills were used to hijack a blimp carrying the former head of the Vision Corporation, Charles Perlman, to his trial.[6] With the help of Victoria Housekeeping Co., Phaethon rescued Rain and foiled her kidnappers' plans.[7]
After the events of Chapter 3, Rain contacted Phaethon again for a new set of commissions.[8]
In Astra-nomical Moment, Rain was contacted by Evelyn to decrypt a message for her that revealed insider information regarding Astra Yao's schedule for her New Years concert.[3]
In Bury Your Tears With the Past (B), she helped Vivian and the Proxy with their investigation on the Ravenlock Family, by providing the coordinates of the distress signal sent by one of the workers hired to go into the Hollow.[4]

- ↑ Lore and Translation Discrepancy: although she is presented as a Proxy in the Episode Call That Name, it is also the only instance of her being referred as such: every other mention of her only calls her a hacker, and her proposal to Phaethon at the end of Night Rain's Request: Phantom Battle ("This is the first time I've made this kind of proposal to a Proxy, you know?") implies she is not a Proxy herself. Indeed, when comparing her introductory line from Call That Name with the Chinese original one, 在破解加密系统和数据方面，确实是绳网一流的好手 "Regarding decryption and data, she really is the best expert on Inter-Knot", there is not mention of her status as a Proxy, only her presence on Inter-Knot, which we know is frequented by non-Proxies too, such as intel brokers, clients, and collaborators.
