• ʻAta is a depopulated island in the far southern end of the Tonga archipelago, situated approximately 160 kilometres (99 mi) south-southwest of Tongatapu.
  • In The Legend of the Mysterious Island, Ata is (possibly unwillingly) a part of a scam to lead people searching for a dangerous island astray. At the end of the quest, the people using Ata in their scam were apprehended. This is a possible reference to the Tongan castaways incident, during which a group of six Tongan teenage boys were shipwrecked on the uninhabited island of ʻAta in 1965 and lived there for 15 months until their rescue. The boys ran away from their boarding school on the island of Tongatapu, stealing a boat in their escape. After being rescued and returned to Tongatapu, the youths were briefly imprisoned for stealing the boat.
