Where the Springs Return

Last updated 2026-05-01

Since the People of the Springs was first established, an ancient legend has circulated within the tribe — a mysterious island, situated in a rarely visited Domain, promises astonishing wealth and unparalleled glory to those who reach it.
Yet, however tempting it might sound, this bounty is far from easily attained. In all their history, only a handful have ever managed to reach this island. It is said that even the top guides from the People of the Springs are unable to guarantee passage through all the trials that must first be passed.
But naturally, for someone whose adventures have already taken them across five nations, the opportunity to take up such a challenge is too good to simply pass up.
Yet, before you can embark on this journey, it seems that there is a "condition that must be met"...

Where the Springs Return is the Tribal Chronicles chapter for the People of the Springs.

List of Acts

Summary

An ancient legend circulates amongst the People of the Springs that has attracted countless tourists before finally coming to your attention...

Act I - Those Searching for the Mysterious Island

After rescuing the trapped travelers, you hear them tell of a legend from the People of the Springs. The adventurer's unique curiosity this sparks drives you toward their tribe's dwellings...

While Traveler and Paimon were strolling through the “People of the Springs”, they come across three Koholasaurs attacking two scholars from Sumeru, Karya and Viramdra. They quickly rush over and fight off the Koholasaurs, who scatter and run away. Karya thanks Traveler and Paimon and they exchange introductions. Viramdra sighs and says that they needed to capture at least one live Koholasaurus, and asks if they could use him as bait. Paimon is worried by this, and Karya apologises on Viramdra's behalf. Paimon accepts her apology and asks her why they were approaching a group of live Koholosaurs. Karya explains that she and Viramdra were trying to find a clue on the Koholasaurs to find a mysterious island, which Viramdra thought would be important for his research. Viramdra interjects, asking if they would consider his proposal to capture a Koholasaur, to which Paimon vehemently refuses, since he's a person. Viramdra is annoyed and says he would consider another solution, but Karya clears her throat and gives him a look. Viramdra thanks Traveler and Paimon awkwardly, and Karya apologises again for Viramdra's lack of “people skills”, before the two leave.

As the two scholars run off, Paimon expresses her interest in looking for the mysterious island. Since she and Traveler didn't have much info about the island, they decide to visit the chief of the tribe for details.

Act II - The Legend of the Mysterious Island

Amina, the Chief of the tribe, tells you all about the legend of the mysterious island. It turns out that there is a "condition that must be met" to embark on the journey there...

Traveler and Paimon approach Amina, the chief of the tribe, and inform her that they want to reach the mysterious island. Amina explains the legend surrounding the island, and Paimon asks how they can get there. Amina falls silent, leading Paimon to assume that she can't tell other people about the legend because it's a secret. Amina says otherwise, then begins to explain how a few people from her tribe were working together to scam tourists who wanted to visit the island. She also explains that she was planning to use herself as bait to catch the scammers, but was unable to because they would recognise her. Paimon offers to be bait alongside Traveler to take down the scammers, and Amina gives them her coin pouch, and their map with the scammer's marked location.

Approaching the marked location, Traveler and Paimon meet a man named Kaulu, who claims to be a tour guide and offers to take them to the island for free. The two accept his offer and head to another marked location, where they meet a man named Kaeho, another self-proclaimed tour guide. He offers them a chance to take a photo with Ata, the elder Koholosaur, while making up excuses to make them pay him large sums of Mora.

After they were done taking photos, Kaulu informs them that he'd found a shortcut to the island. He hands them his Recommended Expedition Equipment and the photo they took with Ata, before the group sets off to the next location. At the next location, they continue on their journey and follow the sunlight trails to their destination.

The group arrives at the “island”, which is, as expected, a scam. Paimon gets angry and tells him that they had receipts as evidence to report him, but finds that the writing had disappeared. Kaulu quickly drops the act and reveals that he took them all the way just to buy time for the handwriting to disappear, smugly telling them that the people they’d paid were using fake names, making them impossible to track down. He then announces that if they report him, he'll just claim to be falsely accused. With that, he runs off, but is caught by Amina and a group of tribe members.

Amina thanks Traveler and Paimon for helping her capture Kaulu, and starts telling them about the requirements to reach the island. After Amina leaves, Traveler and Paimon return to the "People of the Springs" to look for Mualani.

Act III - Journey to the Mysterious Island

In the end, you and Mualani completed your trip to the mysterious island together. But having learned the full truth, the two of you decided to relinquish the honor that could have been yours — and for no other reason than the desire that others too might have the chance to make this journey in future. Though you brought back no treasures, the memories you came away with were more precious still. What was the meaning of this journey? Maybe it lies in the commemorative picture that Mualani gave you... or the realization of the answer that has long been buried in your heart. Or maybe, just maybe, it was both.
Someone Trustworthy

Back in People of the Springs, Mualani is selling swimming floaters to a customer. Traveler and Paimon approach her and ask her to be their guide to get to the mysterious island. Mualani explains that it would be difficult, with even her teacher Uncle Nuu being unable to reach the island. However, she makes an exception since they're her friends.

Suddenly, Suya and Seketo, two tribespeople run over to talk to Koolau about the crystals he found in an underground ruin. Paimon is confused and Mualani explains that Koolau is the top guide in the People of the Springs. The group approaches Koolau, who is talking about the crystals he found. Viramdra announces that he's decided to reach the island, but Koolau turns him down, calling him unskilled. He then suggests that Viramdra should go with Mualani instead, and announces that he's leaving. Mualani tells him to stay, and Koolau tells her he only introduced a client to her because he knows her teacher.
