Badanah

Badanah was a historical figure in the Great Red Sand, Sumeru who lived thousands of years ago and ruled over several city-states that existed in the desert. He was assassinated by his son Faramarz and his concubine Makhaira.

Story

Badanah was a descendant of the Verdant Lord, Zumurud, who was the son of Muzaffar, one of the Twenty-Nine Deys of Orghana (the city now known as Port Ormos). Badanah had a full brother named Muzzudin,^[2] and at least another thirteen brothers (or male relatives) who would later all make claims to the throne following his death.^{[3][Note 1]}

A later inscription found south of Abdju Pit is a panegyric which praises Badanah, who by that time was a king, and claims that he is wiser than Muzzudin was, while also claiming that his mother was the most beloved of Zumurud.^[4] He is remembered in the present day as a tyrant king of Gurabad.^[5]

Trivia

• Badanah is likely partially based on Ghiyassuddin Ghori, the older brother of Muhammad of Ghor. The latter most probably being the basis for Muzzudin's character, they were sultans of the Ghurid dynasty.

Etymology

• Badanah is possibly derived from badana (Arabic: بدنة), generally translating to "obesity," and in Islamic tradition is also a term referring to a camel destined for sacrifice.
