Muzzudin

Muzzudin was a historical figure in the Great Red Sand, Sumeru who lived thousands of years ago.

Story

Muzzudin was a descendant of the Verdant Lord, Zumurud, who was the son of Muzaffar, one of the Twenty-Nine Deys of Orghana (the city now known as Port Ormos). Badanah and Muzzudin were full brothers,^[2] and it is suggested that they had at least another thirteen brothers (or male relatives), based on a later inscription detailing events after Badanah's death, including Balash and Goraz.^{[3][Note 1]}

The same inscription which calls Muzzudin a son of the Verdant Lord also describes him as having a stature "like that of a giant," and this inscription gives equal praise to both Muzzudin and Badanah as princes, claiming that they used slave labor to carry out desert reforestation projects.^[2] However, the later inscription found south of Abdju Pit is instead a panegyric which praises King Badanah and decries Muzuddin as a foolish schemer,^[4] suggesting that the brothers may have later come into conflict when Badanah ascended to the throne. Any role Muzuddin may have had in later events is unclear, as he is not mentioned again elsewhere.

Trivia

• Muzzudin is likely inspired by Muhammad Ghori, who was also known as Mu'izzuddin (Arabic: مُؤَذِّن muʔaḏḏin),^[5] which is possibly the derivation of the name "Muzzudin." Muhammad Ghori was a sultan of the Ghurid dynasty and in a diarchy with his older brother Ghiyath al-Din Muhammad, one that is reminiscent of the in-game diarchy between Muzzudin and his brother Badanah, especially as described in the Primal Obelisk of the Valley of Dahri; Muhammad Ghori would succeed his brother after the latter's death.
