Summary
A massive explosion at the Fontaine Research Institute is triggered by an overloaded Arkhium core in an experiment led by Edwin Eastinghouse. The Traveler is recruited to help investigate the aftermath by a researcher named Desnos, who is managing the recruitment process at a temporary office. The ruins are filled with hazards, including out-of-control meka and Arkhium. The Traveler explores the ruins, solves puzzles, and defeats enemies to activate devices, use cameras, and collect items to help contain the hazards. As the investigation progresses, the Traveler learns the details of the first explosion and the institute's subsequent efforts to cover up the extent of the danger. A second, accidental explosion highlights the institute's ongoing mismanagement and the dangers posed by the ruins, even after the initial incident.
