Etymology
- Hina‘ea is an epithet of Hina, a Polynesian goddess with many different forms and interpretations. She is often associated with the moon and feminine energy.
- Hina‘ea, specifically, is a Hawaiian goddess of the sunrise and sunset and is a healer, especially of the ‘ea (thrush disease of children).
- Mahina, the word for "moon" in Hawaiian and Rapa Nui, is thought to be derived from Hina. Fittingly, the NPC Hinaeia Nui has a relative named Mahina Nui.
