Battuta is an NPC aboard The Xianzhou Luofu, located inside the Realm-Keeping Commission Chancery in Exalting Sanctum.

Battuta is a former Judge of the Klimt Republic. Realizing he made a lot of promises on his role but he's too old to fulfill them now, he resigned and became an Elixir Seeker. He visits the Xianzhou Luofu and wants to fight the ravages of time, but gets caught and is about to get deported.

Battuta: Haha, they've already given me meds, so I'll just rest and recover...

Your body looks healthy. What's all this about...

Battuta: Dear (boy/girl), you're far too optimistic. I may not even survive to see a complete recovery... *cough*...

Battuta: I'm Battuta. I used to be a judge in the Klimt Republic. My side job was a travel writer... But now, I'm just a criminal waiting around for the Sky-Faring Commission to repatriate me...

Battuta: Is it really strange for criminals waiting for repatriation by the Sky-Faring Commission to be waiting here? I'm Battuta. I used to be a judge in the Klimt Republic. My side hustle was a travel writer...

What kind of country do you come from?

Battuta: My homeland... The Klimt Republic is a great nation... *cough*... We have a vast territory, an efficient government, honest officials, and upstanding people...

Battuta: The Klimt Republic was said to be made from nothing by Akivili the Trailblazer when they established the star rail, leading my ancestors on their path of exile to their Eversummer Paradise.

Battuta: In gratitude for their kindness, my ancestors selected warriors and embarked on trailblazing expeditions to transform dead worlds into living ones...

Battuta: About a millennium has passed since its foundation... *cough*... We've already seen seventeen star systems, with a vast territory, and rich products... That's why our nation needs someone like me: a Judge.

Battuta: Many planets exist in ecological environments different from this one... And so the prime minister and council... ahem... That is, our government needs judges like me to help ratify laws and regulations tailored to each of the differing local conditions...

Battuta: *cough*... When I was 20, I graduated from the Royal Academy of Laws, becoming a Doctor of Law at 24... A year later, I passed the qualification examination to become a judge...

Battuta: I can still remember... The prime minister at the time, Madam Wiesener, awarding me my medal and encouraging me to dedicate my life to the people of the motherland, just like her...

Battuta: Ahhh... How energized I was back then... The moment Madam Wiesener placed that medal on me, I felt like a carefree kid again - never to be tired again...

Battuta: That fantasy of vitality was so strong that it was only twenty years ago, when attending the state funeral of Madam Wiesener... That I realized for the first time that all of this would happen to me one day...

Battuta: Too old to handle official duties, too weak to handle continual interstellar travel, I ultimately lie here helpless on a hospital bed, desperately counting all the things I should've done but didn't, all those people I should've seen but hadn't...

You mentioned that you used to be a travel writer?

Battuta: I used to be a travelog writer... *cough*... before coming to Xianzhou, I'd traveled all over the galaxy, experiencing all the customs and peoples of different star systems.

Battuta: I recorded these travel experiences in truth, put them into print, and immediately aroused enthusiastic responses...

Battuta: Actually, I have no misgivings... ahem... It's not due to any beautiful prose of mine, but rather because Klimt has always been like that... Any non-fiction writing is enough to rouse an impressed readership.

Battuta: The lade Madam Wiesener, once said "Whosoever has measured the soils of the motherland with their feet, is willing to spill their blood there." What she said is true... *cough*...

Battuta: I've seen new cities rise up on the richest planets... I've worked with nomadic herders on the poorest planets... I've seen the sun rise or set on every planet in my home system, and also the ebb and flow of every tide...

Battuta: In places where disasters rage rampant, I've fought against the local beasts with the farmers. On frontier worlds, I've somehow survived combat against the Antimatter Legion...

Battuta: But all I've seen is still but a drop in the ocean... *cough*... My journey is not yet complete... But I will die soon with regrets... Am I greedy for longevity? Yes, but I'm greedier for the calling of a traveler.

Battuta: ...It's over, it's all over.

And so you came to Luofu to experience longevity?

Battuta: You really are a quick one, aren't you... But please, let me start at the beginning...

Battuta: When I was in my early thirties... I once went to see the late Madam Wiesener... I told her I was going to run for prime ministry...

Battuta: I was still young back then, and brimming with exuberance... But Madam Wiesener shook her head and told me, "It's still early. Go to the human world, first."

Battuta: And then I went to the "human world"... And saw the field hospitals on the frontlines lacking doctors and medicine. I saw the farmers in the desert struggling to survive. I saw that not every young girl out there got to experience a "fair life"...

Battuta: I made a lot of promises back in those days, and I've been fighting to keep them to this day... But then I woke up from a long dream only to discover that I could no longer walk...

Battuta: Wait until you're old, and you'll find that your body is like an old grandfather clock that's gone wrong... At first, you think it just needs some oil, then the gears wear out, the mainspring loosens, and the pendulum loses its accuracy... *cough*...

Battuta: People are just like monkeys riding a unicycle while trying to juggle. While hurrying to catch those three balls up in the air, you still have to keep stepping on those pedals to spin the wheel and maintain balance...

His name is a reference to the Ibn Battuta, an explorer from modern-day Morocco who traveled to the Mongol Empire during the 14th century.
