Chadwick

Last updated 2026-08-16

Calderon Chadwick is a mission-exclusive NPC on Penacony. He can be found in Dream's Edge during Adventure Mission The Trees At Peace.

History

Chadwick was member #79 of the Genius Society. In early 2156 AE, Dudley, a representative of the Technology Department of the Interastral Peace Corporation, recruited Chadwick to develop a weapon of mass destruction to defend against the Antimatter Legion. Enticed by the prospect of leaving his mark on the world, Chadwick accepted the offer and began developing the weapon that would later become known as the Imaginary Implosion Pulse at a classified facility. Other researchers who admired Chadwick were also recruited to work alongside him. Throughout the project's development, Chadwick was determined to complete the weapon, going so far as to lift safety protocols despite knowing that doing so would compromise the researchers' safety.[1]

At one point, Genius Society #76, Screwllum, was invited to observe a detonation test. During his visit, he questioned Chadwick's reasons for creating such a destructive weapon and warned him of the consequences should it be misused. His warning ultimately came to pass when Dudley, acting on the orders of higher-ups within the Technology Department, authorized the use of the Imaginary Implosion Pulse to eliminate vanguards of the Antimatter Legion preparing to attack IPC trade routes. The higher-ups deemed the collateral destruction of 24 planets, including three that hosted Grade D or higher civilizations, an acceptable cost. Despite Chadwick's protests, the weapon was detonated, killing millions in the process.[1]

Horrified by what he had done, Chadwick disbanded his team and left the laboratory, taking the weapon's crucial research data with him to prevent it from falling into the wrong hands. He later learned from his former colleagues that the IPC had condemned the tragedy and removed the higher-ups responsible for authorizing the weapon's activation. However, he knew that the IPC would never abandon its pursuit of the weapon.[1]

Chadwick sought out Screwllum and asked for his help in procuring the Selective Blocking Agent, which would suppress his knowledge of imaginary physics. As Chadwick had predicted, the IPC soon came seeking his knowledge. The company initially offered him generous rewards, but eventually resorted to abducting him and placing him under house arrest. They attempted to force him to relearn the knowledge he had suppressed, but the Selective Blocking Agent successfully prevented him from retaining any information related to imaginary physics. After repeated failures, the IPC abandoned its efforts to persuade him while he was alive and instead began preparing to extract his knowledge after his death.[1]

Immediately after his death, the IPC extracted and stored Chadwick's memories within a Memory Bubble using technology developed by the Garden of Recollection. Because the extraction was performed so soon after his death, his consciousness was preserved as well. According to Screwllum's speculation, the Technology Department struck a deal with The Family to send Chadwick to Penacony, where they could monitor his memoria. He was kept under the supervision of the Bloodhound Family within the Dreamscape. The Trailblazer eventually noticed Chadwick and, after learning that he had once been a member of the Genius Society, contacted Herta about him. Later, Screwllum accompanied the Trailblazer to Penacony and discovered the Memory Bubble containing Chadwick's consciousness. After learning of Chadwick's past, Screwllum convinced The Family to transfer the bubble to Herta Space Station. There, in the Seclusion Zone, Chadwick's memories and consciousness gradually faded as he entrusted his knowledge and technology to Herta.[1]
