Hyperborea, also known as The Northern Empire, is one of the mentioned city-states on Amphoreus.
Overview
Hyperborea was described as "a frigid realm where ambition burns without end," located in the north of Amphoreus. They were originally ruled by a royal family with "flame-like blue hair" who followed Talanton, yet this bloodline eventually ended by the hands of a childless sovereign, plunging the kingdom into civil strife. This strife only ended when an opportunistic aristocrat used a beggar girl's blue hair and golden blood to his advantage, proclaiming she was a lost princess known as Cerydra. Due to her young age, the aristocrat was appointed the regent king, and in private he conspired with the chancellor, seeing Cerydra as little more than a pawn in their plans.[1]
Despite Cerydra's story granting her and the aristocrat a legitimate right to the throne, old aristocrats conspired in secret to dethrone the regent. Seeing an opportunity, Cerydra conspired with them, helping to plant assassins in the royal guard. From there, Cerydra spread her influence further, appealing to the public by helping the elderly and the vulnerable. By the time she had royal staff on hand, the regent and the chancellor had drained the treasury of the kingdom into funding mercenaries, deciding to send her to conquer the southern kingdoms. Cerydra, knowing her expendable worth to the regent, took up the task hoping to use her success to her advantage. Her army first defeated Loukas in Light Calendar Year 3851, then again in 3867 despite the aid they gained from Icaria and Corinth.[2] Many sieges followed afterwards, culminating in Cerydra and the Hyperborean army taking over Okhema itself.[3]
At some point during her conquest, Cerydra returned to Hyperborea and dethroned the regent king, eliminating his loyalists and sentencing him to death by fire on grounds of his corruption.[2] Hyperborea's fate afterwards is unclear, but it is later referred to as a "lost dynasty."[4]
