Talk to Julian in the Underworld

UI Companion Mission Mission Description

You receive Julian's group message saying that Hook is in trouble. Find Julian and see what's going on.
(Talk to Julian)
Icon Dialogue Quest Don't you have urgent matters for me?
Julian: You! Hey, you, stop! You are now a conscript of The Moles!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Hook's little sidekick...
Julian: I'm not a sidekick! I'm second-in-command! Argh. You know what? No. This ain't the time.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The young little master of disguise...
Julian: Heehee, I, Julian of a Thousand Faces... Wait, it's not the time for this!
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...Who are you?
Julian: You kidding? It's me! The second-in-command of The Moles? Julian of a Thousand— You know what? No. It ain't the time for this.
Julian: We got trouble! The boss went to the Great Mine alone with her Diggertron!
Julian: And she refused to let anyone go with her. I feel like she's doing something dangerous... You have to go check on her for us!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Why would she go to the mines?
Julian: Fersman is in the mines. It seems like the boss heard some bad news about him, then just ran in there.
Julian: She even took her Diggertron. Is she preparing for a fight with the Vagrants...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Diggertron?
Julian: Diggertron is Diggertron! As long as the boss has it with her, you can expect a good fight...
Julian: Fersman is in the mines. It seems like the boss heard some bad news about him, then just ran in there.
Julian: There's lots of bad guys in the mines. Miss Natasha said kids ain't allowed to go in! Go check on her for us now!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Who is Fersman?
Julian: He's Hook's daddy, and he's like a daddy to everyone in The Moles! He's like... a great person!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't worry, I'll head there right away.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Why would I take orders from a little...
Julian: Someone's life in at risk! Forget the minor details!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Alright, I'll go help Pitch-Dark Hook the Great.
Julian: Thank you! Please hurry!

Go to the Great Mine to look for Hook

UI Companion Mission Step Description

Julian, the Moles' second-in-command, stops you. According to him, something happened to Hook's daddy, and Hook needs your help.
The moles often exaggerate their adventures, but you have a feeling that this time they're serious.
(Approach Hook)
Fersman: Calm down, calm down! We're all here to work for a living. Why not sit down and talk it out?
Sardonic Vagrant: Save it! We treated you as our leader, but look how you treated us?
Angry Vagrant: Such a rat!
Sardonic Vagrant: You sold the intel about the vein to Antonia, but we discovered it first! Now, we lost the mine and we have to work for those guys!
Angry Vagrant: Traitor!
Fersman: ...
Sardonic Vagrant: Well, nothing to say for yourself, huh? So you admit that you sold the intel to the mining team?
Hook: Go away, you brutes! Don't bully my daddy!
Sardonic Vagrant: Little Hook? No, no, you have it wrong. It's your daddy who bullied us first. Ask him if you don't believe me!
Hook: Daddy...?
Fersman: Yes, I told Antonia about the vein... but I was the first one to discover it. I have the right to do anything with it.
Sardonic Vagrant: Tsk, it's only because you have that detector. Let's see who's boss when we take it from you!
Fersman: Back off! I was thinking about the bigger picture when I did that, unlike you all who just look for trouble every day!
Sardonic Vagrant: Well, I think someone needs to teach you a lesson. Guys, get him!
Hook: You'll never lay a finger on daddy without passing through Hook!
Icon Dialogue Arrow The Moles are here. Surrender now!
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm here! Everybody, stop!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Take it easy, everyone...
Hook: Ah, it's you! Come and help Hook!
Sardonic Vagrant: Tsk, another punching bag? Fine by me! I'll kick all your butts!
(Enter battle)

(After the battle)
Hook: Daddy, are you hurt?
Fersman: *coughing* ...Just a few scratches. How about you, Hook?
Hook: Don't worry about me! I have Diggertron. No one can hurt me!
Fersman: Good, that's good... And you, young (man/lady), are you hurt? Thank you for your help...
Icon Dialogue Arrow I barely felt a thing.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'll live.
Fersman: Quit acting tough, young (man/lady). Your injuries must be treated right away.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm too young to die...
Fersman: Don't be afraid, young (man/lady). Your injury isn't fatal.
Fersman: Ah, I remember... You are the outsiders Natasha mentioned before, right? I heard that you helped resolve some conflicts around the mines when you arrived. And again today, when you saved my life...
Icon Dialogue Arrow It's no big deal.
Fersman: The conflicts between the vagrants and the mining team have lasted for quite a long time... Even if you have just temporarily mitigated our rather tense relationship. it is greatly appreciated.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Saving lives is my passion.
Fersman: What a noble young spirit you have! Thank you very much!
Icon Dialogue Arrow I just wanted a fight.
Fersman: Haha, whatever your motivation was... I appreciate your help.
Hook: Daddy, let's go to the old witch's clinic. You're seriously hurt!
Fersman: B—But... the vein detector that rapscallion was after— somebody already stole it from me. I need to keep searching, otherwise I might never see it again...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Head to the clinic. Don't make Hook worry.
Icon Dialogue Arrow What's more important? The detector or your life?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Stop talking nonsense and go to the clinic now!
Fersman: ...*sigh*
Fersman: It's just a tool, I guess I should let it go. Let's head to the clinic.

Go to the clinic and ask Natasha about Fersman's condition

UI Companion Mission Step Description

A group of vagrants clashes with the Moles. You stop them, but it's too late... You hurry to the clinic to see of Daddy Fersman is OK.
You haven't figured out what happened, but you can tell that Fersman cares about Hook. At least he is a good father.
(Approach Natasha)
Natasha: I've taken care of your wounds. I'm running short on medical supplies these days though, so behave yourselves and stay away from trouble, you hear me?
Natasha: Don't pretend you didn't hear that, Hook, I'm talking to you!
Hook: ...Hook wasn't the one that caused trouble. It was those bad guys! We were just defending ourselves, ask (Trailblazer)!
Icon Dialogue Arrow The boss is always right.
Hook: See!
Natasha: ...You are gonna spoil that kid.
Icon Dialogue Arrow We shouldn't indulge kids...
Hook: Hey, whose side are you on!?
Natasha: I'm glad we're on the same page. We can't just let this kid do whatever she wants.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I don't know. It has nothing to do with me.
Hook: Hmph, you traitor!
Natasha: ...Well, passing the buck is one way to handle this.
Natasha: That's enough for now. I'll say this one last time, Hook: If you cause any trouble again, I'll take Diggertron away. Do you understand?
Hook: Mmm... Hook understands!
Natasha: The Boss of The Moles should stick to her word. I have patients to take care of, see you later.

Fersman: Thank you again... If it weren't for you and Doctor Natasha, Hook and I probably would've been in big trouble.
Icon Dialogue Arrow What happened exactly?
Fersman: *sigh* Well, a few days ago, I found a Geomarrow vein using a vein detector, and I sold this info to Antonia, a supervisor of the mining team.
Fersman: Then those vagrants heard about it and accused me of being a traitor... They believe that since I'm also a vagrant who came from another mine and ended up in here for a living, I should naturally be on their side.
Fersman: The mining team could not agree with that, of course. *sigh* I'm too old for this...
Hook: Daddy, are we short on money? Why did you do that?
Fersman: My poor child... Daddy is old now. Who knows how long I can stay by your side? I have to start preparing for your future.
Fersman: People say I'm selfish, think I'm a traitor, but it doesn't matter to me. All you need to know is, when I'm gone, you will have the money to take care of yourself and survive on your own...
Hook: Daddy...
Fersman: Forget about it. Since I've got the money from the mining team, I have nothing to complain about now.
Fersman: It's just a shame that I lost my vein detector... It was indeed a treasure.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Someone stole it?
Fersman: I guess so. It's an ancient relic that can detect Geomarrow veins. It's very rare — I haven't seen a second one in my life.
Fersman: I often carried it around looking for a new claim, I suppose some villains must have taken notice.
Icon Dialogue Arrow What is a vein detector?
Fersman: It's an ancient relic that I found in a mine. People say it's a device that mining teams used for detecting Geomarrow veins long ago.
Fersman: I often carried it around looking for a fresh claim, perhaps some villains up to no good took notice. It's a rare device you know, no wonder somebody stole it...
Fersman: ...Anyway, I guess I don't need the detector anymore. The less trouble the better, I shouldn't care who stole my device... *sigh* Whoever it was, I hope they get good use out of it...
(Trailblazer): (Hook seems to be giving me a look like: "I wanna talk to you outside the clinic, now!")
(Trailblazer): (So that's why people call eyes the "windows to the soul.")

Hook seems to have something to tell you. Go ask her.

UI Companion Mission Step Description

Hook says nothing, but her eyes say that she needs your help.
You figure out right away that she wants you to help her find daddy's treasure. She won't give up.
(Talk to Hook)
Hook: ...Wait, Hook needs you to help with something!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Is it about Fersman?
Hook: Yes! We can't just stand by and do nothing!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Leave it to me.
Hook: ...I haven't said what we're gonna do! But that's the spirit. You truly are an honorary member of The Moles!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Huh, couldn't even give it a minute, could you?
Hook: Members of The Moles gotta help each other out! ...Please...
Hook: That detector is daddy's treasure, so I gotta get it back! You'll help me, won't you?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Helping others is my passion.
Icon Dialogue Arrow As long as you behave yourself...
Icon Dialogue Arrow I don't want to help you.
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...But you'll just keep pestering me.
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...And then I'll feel bad about not helping you.
Hook: Alright then! I'll be waiting for you at the shelter in the mine, big (brother/sister)!
Hook: I—I mean... Argh...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Got it.
Icon Dialogue Arrow What did you just call me...?
Hook: Seeya!

Go to the Great Mine and meet up with Hook

UI Companion Mission Step Description

As expected, Hook wants you to help her find daddy's treasure. But could there be a clue in the mine?
Hook's confidence cheers you up. No wonder she is the boss of the Moles.
(Approach Hook)
Hook: Too slow, (Trailblazer), Honorary Member of The Moles! You should have gotten here before Hook!
Hook: Let me introduce you to Swetta. She is daddy's most trusted miner.
Swetta: Not at all, Mr. Fersman trusts every vagrant, and every one of us trusts Mr. Fersman.
Swetta: But after what happened over at that Geomarrow vein... the atmosphere at the shelter became a bit tense.
Hook: I'm here to find daddy's treasure, his vein detector! I heard that someone stole it, is that true?
Swetta: Well... I would guess that's probably true.
Swetta: After the conflict in the mines, Wildfire gathered everyone at the shelter and took a headcount to check on the wounded. Four people were not there.
Swetta: When we returned to the shelter, Mr. Fersman's detector was gone. We searched all around the shelter but found nothing... I guess one of those four people was the thief.
Icon Dialogue Arrow No one else was at the shelter during that time.
Swetta: Yes. The shelter was usually crowded, so thieves would've had a hard time stealing things when everyone was around.
Icon Dialogue Arrow They picked the wrong time to commit the crime.
Swetta: Indeed, now we can narrow down the scope of our search considerably.
Swetta: We vagrants have our dignity, too. I'm sure we will catch the thief, but...
Hook: But... what?
Swetta: Actually, we've already asked those four suspects about it... but they all claimed to not have stolen anything.
Swetta: Of course, we could never expect thieves to confess and turn themselves in, right? In my opinion, one of those four was lying.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The liar must be the thief.
Swetta: I agree.
Icon Dialogue Arrow There can't be more than one?
Swetta: Hmm, doesn't seem likely.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Arrest everyone and interrogate them one by one!
Swetta: We're all vagrants. None of us have the authority to arrest anyone just because we feel like it.
Swetta: Let's see whose words contradict with the facts, and that person would be the thief.
Swetta: All four suspects are at the shelter. If you're feeling confident, why not go give it a try? Maybe you can determine who the thief is.
Hook: Ugh, adults are so dishonest! Hook's gonna question them one by one!

Talk to the suspects at the scene

UI Companion Mission Step Description

According to Swetta, there were four suspects at the scene, and only one of them lied. Whoever lies now must be the most suspicious.
Hook is not a detective, but a child... You're the one who makes the decision.
(Talk to Cook)
Cook: Well, well, well! What's this, playing detective, are we?
Hook: Spill it! Did you steal my daddy's detector?
Cook: You little brat! How dare you label me a thief! Someone needs to give you a good lesson on manners! I'm an honest and decent man, I'd never do such a shady thing!
Hook: Hmph, anyone can say that... If you really didn't steal anything, then just answer our questions!
Cook: Oh, you have a temper, huh? Alright, I'll spare a couple minutes for your little detective game.
Icon Dialogue Talk What were you doing when the crime occurred?
Cook: I'm a cook, what else would I be doing? Don't you notice the smoky cooking smell all over me?
Cook: It's just that I happened to be out shopping for ingredients at that time. Otherwise, who'd want anything to do with this kind of thing?
Icon Dialogue Talk What do you think of Mr. Fersman?
Cook: That old Fersman was kind to me. When we were at Rivet Town, he put me in charge of the whole mining team's food supply.
Cook: And it's because I trusted him that I came to this mine with him. I mean, I didn't expect he would take that money for himself...
Cook: Anyway, he found that Geomarrow vein by himself, so I won't blame him for not sharing. But y'know, what he did was not like the old Fersman I knew.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did you see the detector?
Cook: Well... I don't want to be a snitch, but out of my respect for Fersman, I'll tell you a secret.
Cook: The helper over there, I saw him sneak into Fersman's tent and come out holding a box. See? Isn't he the most suspicious one?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Who is the most suspicious one is not up to you.
Icon Dialogue Arrow You might be framing him.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I believe you, but it's not up to me to judge.
Cook: Hehe, I don't care if you believe me or not. Told you all I know. Now leave me alone if you don't have any more questions, I'm busy.
(Talk to Cook again)
Cook: I told you. I'm sure that helper is the thief.

(Talk to Tailor)
Hook: Did you steal daddy's detector?
Tailor: Nope.
Tailor: I'm no thief.
Hook: Really? Then you better answer our questions honestly!
Tailor: Ask away.
Tailor: Let's not waste time.
Icon Dialogue Talk What were you doing when the crime occurred?
Tailor: Spacing out.
Tailor: Didn't notice anything.
Icon Dialogue Talk What do you think of Mr. Fersman?
Tailor: Good man.
Tailor: But a bit of a cheapskate.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did you see the detector?
Tailor: Nope.
Tailor: What detector?
Hook: Hey, would you mind talking more nicely?
Tailor: What?
Tailor: I always talk like this.
Hook: ...I don't feel like she is the thief.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Can we trust your hunch?
Hook: ...Well, it's the hunch of Pitch Dark Hook the Great...
Icon Dialogue Arrow We shouldn't jump to conclusions yet.
Hook: ...I know!
(Talk to Tailor again)
Tailor: Keep it moving.
Tailor: I didn't steal any detector.

(Talk to Helper)
Helper: Huh, Hook? What's the matter?
Hook: Did you steal daddy's detector?
Helper: Wha— Oh if I'd known I would become a suspect, I wouldn't have gone out at that time... How foolish of me.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Relax. We're just checking off all the boxes.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Feeling guilty or something? You seem a bit off.
Helper: O—Of course not! I didn't do anything wrong...
Hook: We just need you to answer a few questions!
Helper: Okay... ask away. It would be good to clear myself of suspicion.
Icon Dialogue Talk What were you doing when the crime occurred?
Helper: Nothing special. I just went out to get some fresh air.
Helper: Oh dear, oh dear... I know that's a lame alibi! But I swear it's the truth.
Icon Dialogue Talk What do you think of Mr. Fersman?
Helper: Mr. Fersman? He's a good person. Though... oh, er, uh, never mind.
Helper: Oh no, oh no... I must sound very suspicious. But I really didn't do anything. You have to believe me...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did you see the detector?
Helper: Detector? No, I haven't seen anything, and I don't know anything...
Helper: Is that all the questions you have? Have I proven my innocence?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Just stay calm and wait for the news.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I've figured it out. Be careful.
Helper: Oh dear... All this waiting around is enough to make me even more anxious...
(Talk to Helper again)
Helper: I didn't steal it. Really, it wasn't me...

(Talk to Merchant)
Hook: Did you steal daddy's detector?
Merchant: What? How could you say that! You're gonna make me angry!
Icon Dialogue Arrow I think you're suspicious.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't get upset. It's a perfectly reasonable question.
Merchant: You know what a businessman values the most? Reputation! If your slander ruins my reputation and harms my business... You'll pay for that!
Hook: Uh... Well, then answer our questions! We'll decide if we believe you or not.
Icon Dialogue Talk What were you doing when the crime occurred?
Merchant: I have the right to remain silent.
Icon Dialogue Talk What do you think of Mr. Fersman?
Merchant: I... withhold my opinion toward this question.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did you see the detector?
Merchant: No comment.
Hook: Argh... You!
Hook: I'll give you one more chance. Think carefully and give your answer to Diggertron this time!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Calm down, Hook. Don't scare him.
Merchant: You little brat. Grow a couple feet taller before you think about threatening me!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Think carefully and give your answer to my fists.
Merchant: I've seen all sorts of things in my life. Why would I be afraid of you two little rascals?
Merchant: ...Here, how about we make a deal? I'll tell you what I know, in exchange for a small intel service fee — fair and honest!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Deal.
Merchant: Great!
Merchant: I like your style! Customers who don't fuss over the price are the best. So what do you wanna know? Ask away!
Icon Dialogue Arrow That's not gonna happen.
Merchant: Well, looks like I can only continue exercising my right to remain silent. It's up to you.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Alright, I'll pay for your intel.
Merchant: Smart decision. I love doing business with smart people!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Spill it or I'll call Wildfire over!
Merchant: Trying to threaten me with Wildfire, huh? Think I'm afraid of them!?
Hook: (Trailblazer), let's tell Seele to take him away!
Merchant: Huh? No, please don't! I was only joking... Fine, I'll answer your questions! Please, just don't pull Wildfire into this.
Icon Dialogue Talk What were you doing when the crime occurred?
Merchant: I went into town to restock. Nothing out of the ordinary, right? I restock on a regular basis, everyone knows that. I was wondering why there was nobody at the shelter.
Icon Dialogue Talk What do you think of Mr. Fersman?
Merchant: Fersman is an old customer of mine. He's pretty nice to me, though we are not so close. As to what he did about that Geomarrow vein, it was kinda unethical.
Merchant: We're all neighbors. We've known each other for a long time. But he sold out to the other side and left his own people out to dry... I really can't agree with that!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Did you see the detector?
Merchant: Look, the cook is definitely the thief, I'm sure about that! I value my reputation more than anything, so you can trust me.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Why are you so sure about that?
Merchant: In my line of work, I've learned to read people. And something's definitely fishy with that cook. I could tell from the start. If you don't believe me, just ask anyone.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Feels like you're trying to trick me.
Merchant: What do I have to gain from lying to you? Wildfire coming for me in the night?
Merchant: Trust me, something's definitely fishy with that cook. I could tell from the start. If you don't believe me, just ask anyone.
(Talk to Merchant again)
Merchant: That cook is a crook. He's definitely the one that stole Fersman's device.

Hook: Argh... Hook's head is spinning! Do you remember everything they said?
Swetta: Don't worry, I've written it down for you. Remember, among these four people, only the real thief will lie.
Swetta: *sigh* The cook said the helper did it, the tailor said it wasn't her, the merchant said it was the cook, and the helper said it wasn't him. So, do you know who the culprit is?
Icon Dialogue Arrow The cook.
Hook: Hmm... I don't know why, but I'll trust your judgment!
Hook: Come on, let's go accuse the culprit!
(Continues below at Confront the cook and find the thief)
Icon Dialogue Arrow The tailor.
Hook: Hmm... I don't know why, but I'll trust your judgment!
Hook: Come on, let's go accuse the culprit!
(Continues below at Confront the tailor and find the thief)
Icon Dialogue Arrow The merchant.
Hook: Hmm... I don't know why, but I'll trust your judgment!
Hook: Come on, let's go accuse the culprit!
(Continues below at Confront the merchant and find the thief)
Icon Dialogue Arrow The helper.
Hook: Hmm... I don't know why, but I'll trust your judgment!
Hook: Come on, let's go accuse the culprit!
(Continues below at Confront the helper and find the thief)
Icon Dialogue Talk Boss Hook, what do you think?
Hook: I think the cook and merchant are the most suspicious. My gut tells me that one of them is the culprit.
Hook: Don't worry. Even if you choose the wrong one, Pitch-Dark Hook the Great has other ways to uncover the true culprit.
Swetta: Right, we have other methods besides deductive reasoning to find out who the true thief is. Let's just examine what they've said first to decide.
Swetta: *sigh* The cook said the helper did it, the tailor said it wasn't her, the merchant said it was the cook, and the helper said it wasn't him. So, do you know who the culprit is?

Confront the cook and find the thief

UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away.
You've long suspected that the cook lied to you. It's wicked of him to try to frame others.
(Approach the area)
Hook: Huh!? Where's the cook? Where did he go?
Passing Vagrant: Beats me! I saw him running out in quite a panic.
Hook: Argh! That guy has to be guilty! Where is he running off to...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Probably trying to sell off the spoils.
Icon Dialogue Arrow So he's fleeing from justice, huh?
Hook: Oh yeah! I saw Mr. Sampo on the way to the mine when I came here... Could he be involved in this?
Icon Dialogue Arrow It definitely has something to do with him!
Icon Dialogue Arrow He's just trouble on legs.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Surely Sampo is innocent!
...Heh, that would be a naive thing to believe.
Hook: Follow Hook, Mr. Sampo should be that way!

Confront the tailor and find the thief

UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away.
You're not sure if the tailor is the thief, but one cannot waver in the search for the truth.
(Talk to the Tailor)
Hook: Hook figured it out, you're the one who stole daddy's detector!
Tailor: Wrong.
Hook: Wrong? Why? Explain yourself!
Tailor: Brains.
Tailor: Use your brains.
Hook: She's pretty stubborn about denying it... Should we think it over again?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Suppose the tailor is lying...
Hook: If she's lying, then that makes her the thief! But then, what the cook and merchant said would contradict each other...
Hook: (Trailblazer), what actually happened here!?
Icon Dialogue Arrow ...The culprit might be somebody else.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I had it wrong...
Hook: What! Can I even count on you?
Hook: Forget it, let's keep looking for the culprit!
(Immediately after conversation with the Tailor)
Hook: Let's go look around where daddy kept the detector. Maybe we can find some clues there.

Confront the merchant and find the thief

UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away.
You're not sure if the merchant is the thief, but one cannot waver in the search for the truth.
(Talk to the Merchant)
Hook: Hook figured it out, you're the one who stole daddy's detector!
Merchant: You gotta be kidding me... You thought about it for that long, and came up with this conclusion?
Hook: Ah? You mean... we got it wrong?
Merchant: I gave you the answer, and you still couldn't crack the case, detective? Why don't you just go home!
Icon Dialogue Arrow You don't have to be so mean.
Merchant: I already told you, it was the cook! Even if you asked me a hundred times, my answer would still be the cook!
Icon Dialogue Arrow You're just trying to trick us.
Merchant: Huh!? Is it that hard for you to admit you were wrong? Have you ever heard of something called "logic"?
Hook: Just you wait. I'll find evidence, and then you'll be begging me for mercy!
Merchant: Fine, go ahead and look!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Is it really not you?
Merchant: Of course it's not me!
Hook: Hey, you're not questioning yourself, are you? Let's look for evidence and let him beg me for mercy!
Merchant: Pff, right. I'd beg you for mercy. Go ahead, you'll understand once you find the truth.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I was wrong, my apologies.
Merchant: I wouldn't lie to you, it was the cook. The cook did it, the cook!
Hook: Hmm... Let's go look around and see if there are any more clues.
(Immediately after conversation with the Merchant)
Hook: Let's go look around where daddy kept the detector. Maybe we can find some clues there.

Confront the helper and find the thief

UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away.
You're not sure if the helper is the thief, but one cannot waver in the search for the truth.
(Talk to the Helper)
Hook: Hook figured it out, you're the one who stole daddy's detector!
Helper: Wha— What? You have the wrong person. I didn't steal anything! Waaaah... I knew you'd suspect me. I shouldn't have returned to the shelter at that time. if only I hadn't returned to the shelter...
Icon Dialogue Arrow If you want to cry, go cry to Wildfire.
Helper: I really didn't do it, I don't know anything!
Helper: You... you just think I‘m a pushover. That's why you're treating me like this! Wah...
Icon Dialogue Arrow What did you take from the tent?
Helper: T—Tent? I've never even been close to Mr. Fersman's tent...
Icon Dialogue Arrow This isn't personal, it's just deductive reasoning.
Helper: W—Well... you deduced wrong! What kind of reasoning are you even using!?
Helper: I beg you, I never even stole pocket money from my parents as a kid. Don't wrong an innocent person...
Hook: Hmm... Maybe he really isn't the thief. Hook doesn't think he's lying...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Are you questioning my reasoning?
Icon Dialogue Arrow My deduction might be a little flawed...
Hook: Just think about it! Swetta said that only the real thief would lie to us.
Hook: If the thief really is the helper, then what he and the merchant said would both be wrong!
Icon Dialogue Arrow My mistake...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Why haven't I noticed you being this smart before?
Hook: Hmph! Adults are all so unreliable! Let's go look for more clues.
(Immediately after conversation with the Helper)
Hook: Let's go look around where daddy kept the detector. Maybe we can find some clues there.

Investigate the scene where the vein detector went missing

UI Companion Mission Step Description

Although it doesn't go well, there are still clues related to the culprit at the scene. You're certain to find something if you look around.
There are many ways to find the truth... but for you, taking the long way is a shortcut.
(Optional: Investigate shelves)
The pickaxe used by Fersman. He's supposed to be retired, but to make a living, Fersaman would still work in the mines with the vagrants.
(Investigate tent)
This is the tent that Fersman temporarily borrowed in the shelter. It looks like it has been rummaged and a packaging label has fallen on the ground.
Hook: This is the label from a supply box... I know where those boxes are!
Hook: That way, let's go take a look!

Find the packages using the information on the label

UI Companion Mission Step Description

The clumsy culprit left the packaging label when they stole the vein detector. Hook knows where these packages are.
You feel that you're getting closer to the culprit... You would have gone to the scene of the crime in the beginning had you known about this.
(Investigate wooden supply crate on the left, next to the open dumpster)
An empty supply crate from the shelter. Judging by its label, it was used to store emergency tents.
(Investigate wooden supply crate on the right, parallel to the aforementioned crates)
The supply crate from the shelter. transported here after a long journey. Barely recognizable, some text is printed on the box: Rivet Town.
(Investigate wooden supply crate on the right, near the stacked building materials)
A supply crate from the shelter. It's wet, as if it has been salvaged from the underground river. Judging by its label, it was used to store emergency food.
(Investigate wooden supply crate on the left, near the red trash can)
Hook: The label must've been on this box! Wait a minute... What's that smell?
Hook: *sniff* It smells like condiments! Mmm, this smells like salt-grilled olm...
Icon Dialogue Arrow What does this have to do with the culprit?
Hook: Not too many people smell like this...
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm hungry.
Hook: There won't be any eating until we find the culprit!
Hook: I think the thief took daddy's treasure... and I think that this damaged probe is from the detector!
Hook: Has daddy's treasure been sold already?
Hook: Where could the thief have gone? Hmm... think, Hook, think...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Probably trying to sell off the spoils.
Icon Dialogue Arrow They probably haven't left the Great Mine yet.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Perhaps they are off punishing themselves for their crime...
Hook: Oh yeah! I saw Mr. Sampo on the way to the mine when I came here... Could he be involved in this?
Icon Dialogue Arrow It definitely has something to do with him!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Mentioning that name sooner would've saved us a lot of time.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I'm sure Sampo is innocent!
...Heh, who could ever say that confidently.
Hook: Follow Hook, Mr. Sampo should be that way!

Follow Hook and confront the suspect

  • Cook Version
  • Tailor/Merchant/Helper Version
UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away. You've long suspected that the cook lied to you. It's wicked of him to try to frame others.
UI Companion Mission Step Description

You've made a clear deduction, and now it's time to prove it. Follow Hook, and don't let the criminal run away.
You're not sure if your deduction is correct, but one cannot waver in the search for the truth.
(Immediately after dialogue ends)
Hook: Mr. Sampo's always at the clinic hanging around Miss Natasha. Hook thought he was really sick or something!
Hook: If he's working with the thief... then he's also a bad guy!

(Approach the suspect)
Sampo: My friend, are you serious? This device is quite rare. Are you really willing to sell it to me at such a low price?
Cook: No, no, why are you making this so complicated? Do you want it or not? Just tell me!
Hook: You two, stop right there! Pitch-Dark Hook the Great has arrived!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Sampo, what are you doing here?
Sampo: Just doing a little business. What's all the fuss?
Icon Dialogue Arrow That guy is a thief, he's trying to sell something he stole!
Sampo: Tsk boy, I knew it was too good to be true!
Icon Dialogue Arrow That guy is a thief, he's trying to sell something he stole!
Sampo: Tsk boy, I knew it was too good to be true!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Quiet! I'm going to give you a good butt-kicking!
Sampo: Wait a second! Let's all just calm down! Is there something wrong with the source of this stuff? I mean, I've got nothing to do with it...
Sampo: I gotta make this clear: I have nothing to do with this fella! You have to trust me— Miss Hook, please don't point that thing at me, it's scary!
Cook: Hey! How can you sell me out like that! We had a deal...
Hook: You! You stole daddy's treasure! Diggertron will not spare you...!
Cook: This... this is all that old Fersman's fault! Just because he has this device I'm holding, he can make a fortune... It's not fair!
Sampo: Umm, well... It seems you guys have some issues to sort out. So... maybe I should leave.
Icon Dialogue Arrow That's no reason for you to steal it.
Cook: What kind of a reason are you looking for? With the Underworld in such a sad state, how are we supposed to survive if we don't resort to robbing and stealing?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Fersman has his reasons...
Cook: The heck if I care! With the Underworld in such a sad state, how are we supposed to survive if we don't resort to robbing and stealing?
Cook: Hmph, anyway, I got the device now! Come take it... if you have the guts!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Guess you want to do this the hard way.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Okay, we'll take it then!
Icon Dialogue Arrow You got some guts taunting us yourself...
Hook: Diggertron... get ready!
(Commence battle)

(After the battle)
Hook: Hah, you sure talked tough for someone who can't fight! Come on, hand the detector over to Hook!
Hook: ...
Hook: No... No! Daddy's treasure... It's broken!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Life is full of disappointments, sorry kid...
Hook: But... But...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Can it be repaired?
Sampo: Hey, now this is Sampo's time to shine!
Icon Dialogue Arrow You're still here?
Sampo: Of course! I wouldn't want to miss out on seeing you and Miss Hook's acts of heroism, would I?
Sampo: Listen here, there's a fellow in Boulder Town they call Balaway the Miner's Lamp. He's an appraiser. Although he claims that he doesn't do appraisals anymore for ancient relics, he actually still does a bit behind the scenes for ones that are of especially high value.
Sampo: I think this device of yours is probably worth a lot. It might be a good idea to try your luck with Balaway.
Sampo: Here's a trick — first, pretend that you want to sell it for a low price, then wait for him to excitedly fix the device for you. After it's fixed, tell him you've changed your mind and you want to keep it for yourself.
Sampo: This business tactic is what I call a "bait and switch." Pretty clever, huh?
Hook: Balaway the Miner's Lamp... Got it! Thanks, Mr. Sampo.
Hook: (Trailblazer), let's go into town to find him!
Sampo: Have a safe trip!

Go to Boulder Town and consult Balaway

UI Companion Mission Step Description

Sampo suggests that you ask for the opinion of a famous archeologist, who lives in the underworld. Maybe he can save the detector.
Although you doubt his professional competence, Balaway is the only one around who knows much about antiquities.
(Talk to Balaway)
Icon Dialogue Quest I was wondering if you could have a look at this detector.
Balaway: I'm already retired from appraising ancient relics. So unless this detector is some kind of precious treasure...
Hook: Look at this! The detector's probe broke off, can you fix it?
Balaway: ...
Balaway: Oh ho ho, this certainly is a rare relic! Let me take a closer look...
Hook: Yes, look extra close! You have to help Hook fix it!
Balaway: This device... I've been in the business for a long time, but never have I seen an ancient relic like this one before.
Balaway: I think this is probably beyond repair. But still, it is a rare treasure. Even broken, I'd be willing to pay a high price for it. What do you say?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Can we trust your appraisal?
Balaway: The detector's probe is gone, it's like searching for something without eyes or ears. Now it's nothing more than a pile of junk with no practical value.
Balaway: I'm willing to offer a generous price for this thing. So, do you want to sell it or not?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Can you tell me more about it? I intend to sell it.
Balaway: The detector's probe is gone, it's like searching for something without eyes or ears. Who's going to want a pile of junk?
Balaway: I don't believe any other stores will buy it off you. Come one, I'll give you a nice deal.
Hook: ...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Boss, I think we should go.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Maybe we should let Fersman decide what to do with it.
Icon Dialogue Arrow We aren't going to sell it to you, you crooked profiteer!
Hook: ...
Hook: Alright then, let's go find daddy...

Return to the clinic and tell Fersman what happened

UI Companion Mission Step Description

The detector is still broke, but is should be returned to it's original owner... You notice that Hook has lost her usual vibrance, as if she is disappointed in herself.
You know she has worked hard to find the detector, but disagree that it's her fault the detector is broke.
(Talk to Fersman)
Fersman: Where have you been, Hook? I was just about to go looking for you. Come on, let's go home, I'll cook some salt-baked rock crabs for you.
Hook: ...
Fersman: What's wrong with this kid?
Icon Dialogue Arrow She's been like this ever since just now...
Fersman: Why, what happened?
Icon Dialogue Arrow We found the vein detector.
Fersman: Vein detector? The one I lost?
Hook: (Trailblazer) and Hook helped daddy catch the thief that stole it!
Hook: But... daddy's detector... is broken. It's all my fault... If only I could've found it sooner...
Fersman: So it was stolen... You're not hurt are you, Hook?
Hook: I'm fine! Daddy, can you see if your detector still works?
Fersman: Hmm... the Geomarrow Probe is damaged. I'm afraid this thing won't work anymore.
Hook: I'm sorry, daddy. I didn't help one bit...
Fersman: What are you apologizing for? Thank you so much for looking out for me, Hook.
Hook: But, daddy's treasure... Waaaah...
Fersman: Don't cry, Hook! Daddy's true treasure has been here all along. It was never lost or broken.
Hook: ...Huh?
Icon Dialogue Arrow It is an adorable treasure indeed.
Hook: Huh, you know what it is too?
Icon Dialogue Arrow This treasure can even cry, you know?
Hook: It can... cry?
Fersman: The detector helped me find lots of Geomarrow veins, and it saved the mining team a lot of money. In that respect, it was a very good thing.
Fersman: But at the end of the day, the detector is just a tool. A true treasure must have irreplaceable importance to someone.
Hook: Hook... doesn't really understand.
Fersman: Hahaha, that's okay. I'm saying some things that might seem strange, but you will understand some day.
Hook: So, the treasure daddy is talking about...
Fersman: Is still happily running and jumping around.
Hook: Daddy...
Hook: (Trailblazer), you're not allowed to see Hook cry! Go away!
(Complete)

Post-Mission

(Talk to Julian)
Icon Dialogue Talk I sorted things out with Fersman.
Julian: Oh. that's great! No wonder Hook made you an honorary member. Thank you, (mister/miss)!
Julian: But if everything's sorted... Why has Hook been bawling her eyes out?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Because a father and daughter's love knows no bounds.
Julian: ...Sounds like lots of water under the bridge. I'll wait for Hook to be in a better mood before I ask her about it.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Don't stick your beak into ladies' affairs.
Julian: ...You're right. I'm not gonna do it anymore.
Julian: After all, Fersman's problem is the Moles' problem, too. And as the Moles' deputy, I really must praise you, o trusty honorary member!
