Dialogue
- (First interaction)
- Overhead Voice: How many times do I have to say it? This is a school, and you need to be quiet!
Whoa, so this thing can talk?
- Overhead Voice: Wha—!?
- Overhead Voice: How dare you call me a "thing"? Look closer! I am a strangeling hidden in the painting!
But everyone says I'm a quiet (boy/girl). - Overhead Voice: Those are just empty words from empty minds.
- Seadrake: I am Ms. Seadrake, the Dean of Graphia Academy. You may not recognize me, but I remember you...
- Seadrake: (Trailblazer), you enrolled on the first day of school, am I right?
Uh... yeah? And?
And I suppose you were born on your birthday?- Seadrake: What, you think I'm joking with you? I am simply reminding you of that which needs reminding.
- Seadrake: I've noticed a trend: Students today are not receptive to discipline. They don't want to hear a single word more than necessary.
- Seadrake: Are you saying I'm being long-winded?
- Seadrake: Well, actually, I have reflected on this. I always say that I care about the students here at Graphia Academy, but I'm constantly in meetings. It's only natural that they feel a certain distance from me.
- Seadrake: Hey, I do wish to learn more about the young people of today. Let us continue our conversation...
- (Subsequent interactions)
- Seadrake: Hey there! Is there anything you need my help with? There is no need for pleasantries, which is to say, you may speak freely.
Let's have a game of Cosmicon Collective!
- (Open Cosmicon Collective interface)
Let's have a talk...
- Seadrake: Of course, let's talk some more.
What does a dean normally do?
- Seadrake: Typically, it involves ensuring the quality of education: curriculum planning, supervision, research, reform... and then there's the daily student management, which covers everything from academic conduct to student discipline.
- Seadrake: In short, it's a lot of meetings.
- Seadrake: Honestly, not all teachers are quite as talented at chairing meetings as I am. Does that make sense? Most people find meetings dull and tedious, but to me, they're a form of art. Very avant-garde.
Since when did meetings need to be avant-garde?
And what's that supposed to mean, "art"?- Seadrake: The fact that you have to ask what that means is, in itself, not very avant-garde.
So you wish to learn more about young people?
- Seadrake: That's right. Compared to a great strangeling like thundercoil, I'm still young. But compared to the mechatrons, I'm an old-timer... I see myself as a bridge between the younger generation and the older one.
- Seadrake: It's what a dean should do. I've even learned all the popular slang and catchphrases the kids are using...
- Seadrake: Like, uh, "It's cooked," "Totally slay," or "Understood the assignment"... How's that?
Those are a bit outdated.
What does that mean?
You need to go online... like, the internet of today...- Seadrake: Haha, that's what I get for reading old news. Time really does fly...
- Seadrake: On that note, I'm also very concerned about my students' future plans. I often ask them, "Imagine what you'll be doing 13 years from now." I want them to really think about that question.
But why should they think about that?
- Seadrake: Well, think about it. Time changes so many things, yet some things never change. Isn't that fascinating?
- Seadrake: For example, thundercoil and I have been getting older since the beginning of time, but what's amazing is that the age gap between us hasn't changed at all.
- Seadrake: I wish for the young people to envision their futures, and to think about what changes and what stays the same.
Why 13, specifically?
- Seadrake: Oh, nothing special. I was just talking to a student when a sudden wave of inspiration hit me from the depths of my mind, and then...
- Seadrake: I just saw the number "13" itself.
- (Trailblazer): Seriously? It doesn't actually mean anything?
- Seadrake: Exactly. The "meaninglessness" is what makes it so punchy. You've got to have that shock factor when you're dealing with the younger crowd.
Have you ever noticed that you tend to... talk in circles?
- Seadrake: No, I don't believe I talk in circles.
- Seadrake: I believe my words are both deliberate and spontaneous.
This right here is quite confusing...
Okay, now you've got me in the circles...- Seadrake: It's easy enough to understand, isn't it? I was just at a seminar recently, and people said I really get straight to the point.
- Seadrake: I said, "You can't catch students skipping class if you only look in the classroom," and all the teachers there were nodding along.
How about telling us something we don't already know?- Seadrake: Ugh... forget it. You only think that because we're not on the same wavelength.
That's it for now!
- Seadrake: If you want to talk again, you're always welcome. In other words, you can come find me whenever you want.
