Paulo is a commission-exclusive NPC who appears during Phaethon's Story: Where Clouds Embrace the Dawn as a supporting character.

Paulo is an employee for Porcelumex. He is mentioned to be married and having a young daughter named Leila.

History

Phaethon first met Paulo while asking around Failume Heights about Porcelumex, where they ran into him and Komano Manato. At first, both he and Manato mistake them as being sent by Porcelumex, before the misunderstanding is cleared up. He then tells them about the corruption incident, explaining how he experienced several of his own co-workers being corrupted before his very eyes. When Phaethon inquires about the anti-corruption measures, Paulo suspects that the anti-corruption medicine itself might be the source of the problem, and that Porcelumex had told the workers who witnessed the incident to keep quiet. Phaethon eventually struck a deal with Paulo, asking for his cooperation in return for securing better worker rights and compensation. Encouraged by Manato and after remembering the aid Yunkui Summit lent during the Fall of the Old Capital, Paulo agrees, and promises to sneak them into the Hollow while also connecting them to a friend who knows more about the corruption incident. Later, they meet with Paulo at the Cable Car, and he hands them an ID card before helping them enter the Hollow where they meet Eric and begin to investigate the production area inside Lemnian Hollow.^[3]
However, disaster later struck when Phaethon's investigation revealed that Dr. Lohr's "Alleviating Water" seemed to be the true cause of the corruption side effects. Hearing from Manato that Dr. Lohr had taken Paulo along with several other workers into the Hollow, they rushed after to stop them. After picking up a weak signal, they found Paulo who was already showing signs of corruption, revealing he had taken the Alleviating Water as part of his treatment from Dr. Lohr. Yixuan attempted to help him, but, seeing as he wouldn't make it and not wanting to harm anyone around him, he eventually got up and ran away deeper into the Hollow before fully corrupting and turning into an Ethereal.^[1]
After learning of his death, Manato would swear revenge on The Exaltists while Phaethon would later run into Ukinami Yuzuha after she was at Suibian Temple to help comfort Paulo's daughter, Leila.
