Yijiang is a mentioned NPC. She was the older sister of Yixuan and the previous 12th High Preceptor of Yunkui Summit Yunkui Summit.[3]

Profile

Yijiang was a talented mystic of Yunkui Summit and a protective sister towards Yixuan. During the Fall of the Old Capital, she wielded the Qingming Sword, which consumed her completely.

History

Before being taken in by the Yunkui Summit's 11th High Preceptor of the time, both Yijiang and Yixuan were orphaned kids wandering on the streets, stealing food to survive. Once they became disciples, they both displayed promising talent. With the health of the High Preceptor declining more and more, along with the effects of using the Qingming Sword, Yijiang was chosen by the Qingming Sword to be his successor and twelfth-generation High Preceptor of Yunkui Summit.[4] She promised Yixuan that she would not make the same mistake of their Shifu, and would not sacrifice herself in exchange for the others. Instead, she would have outlived her role as a High Preceptor, and once she stepped down, Yixuan and she would have left Yunkui Summit to travel the world together.[5]

The day the old capital fell, Yunkui Summit aided the military in Hollow Zero, and Yijiang ran to face the disaster branding the Qingming Sword. During the mission, she saved Isolde and Orpheus, last surviving members of Agamemnon Squad.[6] Faced with the gravity of the situation, Yijiang chose to save Eridu and her sister in exchange for her life, breaking her promise.[5] She thus used the full power of the Qingming Sword, which absorbed her completely, leaving behind only her hairpin. Yixuan, the only survivor of her generation of mystics and now High Preceptor herself, made a tomb for Yijiang on the mountains.[4]

Following Yijiang's death, the Qingming Sword created a version of her within the Qingming Realm using the memories it had absorbed. This being would go on to meet Ye Shunguang after she inherited the sword, who, along with Phaethon, addressed her as "Shifu" until the truth of her nature was revealed.[7]

The Miasmic Fiend created by Overseer Mevorakh inherited the memories of Yijiang. Though it was driven mad by its painful memories, it was able to recognize Yixuan during its very last moments.[8]

Etymology

  • Yijiang is a Chinese given name. It is made of the two characters 儀 yí, "rites" and 绛 jiàng, "crimson", corresponding with 玄 xuán, "black or dark", in Yixuan's name.
  • 绛 is not a Jōyō kanji in Japanese, and thus, in Japanese, 降 is used instead.
