Dori is the owner of The Palace of Alcazarzaray and a merchant of high regard, "Lord Sangemah Bay" is well known for her ability to obtain anything a person needs, as long as they have enough Mora to afford her jaw-dropping prices.

Profile

Personality

Dori is a merchant of high regard in Sumeru, considered the most resourceful merchant who's able to acquire quality goods through her mysterious supply chain (which also includes Alice). She is extremely wealthy and highly obsessed with Mora, seeing everyone and everything as a way to make profit. Her obsession with Mora is due to the fact that her older sister had an illness which her family couldn't afford treatment for at the time. She uses her spontaneous appearance and words to sway customers into buying her goods despite her jaw-dropping prices.

Willing to make Mora off just about anything, Dori does not mind breaking the law and even has countermeasures to ensure the safety of her clients and staff. Although she tries to hide it from others, Dori is not completely greedy, as she spends some of her wealth to help better others.

Appearance

Dori uses the short female model. She has fair skin, golden brown eyes, and short pink hair. She also wears a pair of small glasses with reddish lenses and gold diamond-shaped frames.

History

Past

Dori lived alongside her family in Sumeru. They were rather poor and struggled to make ends meet. Soon afterwards, her older sister became gravely ill, but her parents could not afford the medicine needed to cure her. When Dori discovered the note that showed all the prescribed herbs that would cost tens of millions of Mora to acquire, she resolved to never run out of Mora so she could make her family happy. Her determination resulted in an Electro Vision appearing before her.

With her Vision in hand, Dori began to establish a trade business, becoming acquainted with Alice. Alice would supply Dori with various trinkets, including a special amulet that was powered by kuuvahki. Alice would also introduce Skirk to her. Both were impressed with each other; Dori was pleased that Skirk only asked for the bare minimum to get by, while Skirk was pleased to discover that Dori did not inquire about her past.[4] Dori quickly established a name for herself across Sumeru, and though many were cautious of her due to her jaw-dropping prices, they were nonetheless forced to purchase her goods as she either appeared in convenient spots or sold items that others did not possess.

As her business expanded, Dori began to acquire large numbers of Sumpter Beasts and planned a place for them so they could relax on their down time. Being the shrewd merchant she was, she turned it into an amusement park, which quickly recouped the costs of caring for the beasts. She also acquired a Jinni through trickery, though the Jinni quickly found itself content while in her service.[5]

At some point with her newfound wealth, Dori had Kaveh build The Palace of Alcazarzaray just north of Sumeru City. Dori let Kaveh build however he pleased, as long as it met her conditions of being large and extravagant. During construction, The Withering crept into the zone and left it unusable. Dori was going to give up the project and cut her losses but Kaveh, having invested too much into it, begged her to allow him to continue the project even if he had to cover the costs himself. With a loan from Dori, the palace was successfully built at the cost of leaving Kaveh in her debt.[6]

Dori continued accumulating massive amounts of wealth but appeared to have made less and less contact with her father and mother. Her work also made her think less of her sister, causing her to worry that she would completely forget her.

Present

Due to the laws of the Akademiya, Dori kept herself hidden in Port Ormos and would only meet those who managed to gain the trust of her associates. The Traveler, being given some phrases by Alhaitham, manages to meet with Dori after gaining Raunak's trust. Learning they were there to buy some Knowledge Capsules, Dori brings a few out. The Traveler purchases some, leaving her content.[7] They later returned to her to ask about the Divine Knowledge Capsule, and Dori showed them a picture of the transaction between an unknown party and Ayn Al-Ahmar, which she claimed was taken at incredible risk.[8]

Sometime later, Dori learned of an ancient Domain known as the Court of Desolation in the desert. When the Traveler approached her to ask about it, Dori agreed to give them information about it and the smugglers. She had cashed out of the Knowledge Capsule business due to their actions and hoped that the industry could be regulated. For giving them the information and the location of the auction, Dori decided to charge Cyno rather than the Traveler.[9] After the case was solved, one of Dori's associates approached Cyno regarding the debt. Unaware that he owed her anything, Cyno arrested the associate for disturbing the peace.[10]

During the first iteration of the Nilotpala Cup Beast Tamers Tournament, someone sent Dori schematics which she sought to get rid of but could not find anyone. She soon ran into the Traveler and Paimon, learning that Layla had sent them and believed there was something wrong with the tournament. Before she left, she gave them the schematics, which the Traveler and Paimon found unusually similar to the tournament-provided supplies.[11]

When the Akademiya hosted the Interdarshan Championship, Dori set up booth as close as possible to the event in order to get customers flocking to her stalls. She asked Morgiana to grab the two for a talk, where she offered to give them secret intel about the event that occurred twenty years ago. In the end, Kaveh smashed the Diadem of Knowledge, which the Traveler told Dori about. She was incensed at the loss, as she had hoped the Traveler would inform the Akademiya of the defect, who would then sell it to her at a low price for her to flip off. Since this was now up in smoke, Dori swore to increase Kaveh's interest rate and give no exceptions for his upcoming payment.[12]

Dori would soon test out a new ship she acquired from Fontaine in order to explore a new avenue of business, hiring both Layla and Faruzan to help her finetune the equipment. She promised to cover any expenses they would incur, which delighted Faruzan. They arrived at Wangshu Inn for a meal, only to discover that the Traveler was filling in for Smiley Yanxiao. As Faruzan prepared to order the most expensive dishes, Dori stopped her, claiming that she had seen enough fish for a while and did not want to see anymore. While Yanxiao was surprised by the request, he nonetheless taught the Traveler Trembling Strings and Rushing Reeds. When the plate was served, Dori offered the two a spot at the table, only to be surprised when she was told the cost was 30,000 Mora. She tried to weasel her way out of paying, but the Traveler made her pay up. Dori resolved to learn the dish herself, and when the Traveler talked to her later, she admitted she had chosen Wangshu Inn to save money but had underestimated the market.[13]

Dori later made her way to Nod-Krai in order to establish a new branch of her business there. When she arrived, the turbulent kuuvakhi energies knocked her Jinni unconscious and she soon found herself in a dangerous situation. Fortunately, Nefer arrived and saved her, and Dori began a partnership with Nefer, though she found it unnerving that she could read her motives. Dori established a new branch in Nasha Town, leaving Urwa in charge of the location when she was not in Nod-Krai.

While investigating Rerir, Nefer learned of the amulet Alice had given her and decided to borrow it from Dori to serve as "insurance" if something went wrong. Dori was dragged into the Curatorium of Secrets by Jahoda while she was still groggy. When Nefer asked about the amulet, Dori initially refused to give it to her, stating that it was something she invested in, but Nefer convinced her by claiming that she would get a favor from her if she did. The amulet was later drained and Dori was upset to find her hard work had gone down the drain, but nonetheless continued helping Nefer and the others, as she did not want her business at risk. She gave them a special device that was made in collaboration between Nahida and Kaveh, as she was told by Alice that at some point in the future, everyone would face a great crisis. Following Rerir's expulsion, Nefer asked Dori about her recent investments. Dori was upset that she was poking into her private business, but when Nefer revealed she knew why she had done so, she admitted that she did not want disaster to befall her family and friends, having experienced it herself.[14]

Dori participated in Nasha Town's annual trade expo, collaborating with Alice and Nicole to sell some Hexenzirkel merchandise under the condition that it would not be sold by wealth, but by happiness. This did not go well and she felt that she would need to whip out her Sumeran specialties in order to break even. Alice told her that she was free to keep the sales for herself, which Dori was grateful for. She also sold a special crystal to Ati that would allow an oasis to grow anywhere on Teyvat, which Alice had given her under the promise that it be sold to keep the children happy. Though Dori wished to sell it for the highest bidder, she knew it was unwise to break a promise with a mage.[15]
