Event Dialogue
Rolling Crossfire
- Frejus: So, how are the experiments going?
Not bad.
We're having fun.- Frejus: Phew... Glad to hear it.
Do even geniuses worry about their experiments?
I thought you had confidence.- Frejus: Haha, it sure would be nice if I really were a genius. To be honest, I'm just an ordinary fellow who's lived an ordinary life for thirty years. There's nothing special about me.
- Frejus: I would have been more enthusiastic just a few years ago, but I was shot while rescuing hostages, and as a result, I often wake up in pain at night, so I ended up like this.
- Frejus: Gunshot wounds tend to be very troublesome like that. Fortunately, all the hostages were saved — that was one of the few highlights of my life.
Why does Chenee call you a genius, then?- Frejus: Oh, uh, about that... I took her and the other newbies out for a party when she first joined... and I might have bragged about my abilities too much while drunk.
- Frejus: All that "rejected the Institute three times" business... It was I, in truth, who was rejected. I'm no genius, just a normal person who dabbles in little gadgets.
- Frejus: I didn't expect them to all believe me, and since our patrol work isn't all that interesting, they always pester me with questions when they get bored.
- Frejus: As such, I've been forced to continue this charade... That said, while my work is nothing compared to the Institute's advanced research, I have constructed quite a few small, useful inventions.
- Frejus: Of course, I make them out of pocket, but I keep those greenhorns in the dark by saying that they're funded by the higher-ups, which makes them sound more cool. Please keep my secret, if you don't mind.
This will fall through one day, I know.- Frejus: Yes, I'm aware. But I imagine their curiosity is limited, and in fact, many people have lost interest — only Chenee remains.
- Frejus: Once she too gets bored, I shan't have to continue.
- Frejus: I'm sure it'll make me feel a little better... and a little disappointed all at once. Such is base humanity, I suppose.
Fearsome Ferocious Firepower
Dialogue Set #1
Available after completing The Cannon Has Ears and before completing Pre-Packaged Solution.
- Frejus: So, what did you think of the cannon?
It could still do with a little work...
- Frejus: What do you mean?
Well, it's stuck in one place...
I'd rather be able to pick it up and fire from different angles...- Frejus: I wasn't expecting a request like that... I guess I should have known someone as exceptional as you would have extraordinary ideas.
- Frejus: But if I'm going to make it mobile, I'll need to do something about the recoil first.
- Frejus: It is a naval cannon, after all. Of course, if it were you carrying it, I'm fairly confident you could withstand the force...
- Frejus: But for a regular member of the Gardes... the recoil would probably kill them stone dead. I'll need to invent a... "Miniature Terrestrial Naval-Grade Platform"! Something mobile that can support the cannon's weight.
- Frejus: Obviously, for something this big, I'll need to consider its defensive capabilities — armor plating would make it too heavy. Then, I need to consider propulsion and mobility. There's much to consider.
- Frejus: The engineering designs are going to get extremely complicated. I wonder, can I really do this? I was rejected three times by the Fontaine Research Institute, and...
You look familiar...
- Frejus: So you still remember me? That's wonderful!
- Frejus: It was a good while ago now, but you helped me test the original prototype for this cannon.
- Frejus: Back then, I was still lying to Chenee about being a genius...
So, she finally figured you out?
Does that mean you came clean?- Frejus: Haha, as it happens, the answer is neither — the lie evolved!
- Frejus: Thanks to you, my cannon performed outstandingly, and the Maison Gardiennage rewarded me with financial support. They even introduced me to a few engineers.
- Frejus: With guidance from those old hands — and after getting to grips with a fair few abandoned projects from the Fontaine Research Institute — I managed to produce some noteworthy inventions...
- Frejus: Such as my "Shallow-Earth Mining Drill" and "Variant Antoine Roger Aircraft"... which I should really call the "Frejus Flyer."
- Frejus: Of course, Chenee's favorite is the "Automatic Breakfast Oven." She uses it every day.
So, in the end, your lie became the truth?
Perhaps you really were a genius all along?- Frejus: Not at all. Everything I've invented was based on the work of others. I'm more of an improver than an inventor. If you were feeling particularly unkind, you might say all I do is "embellish" others' ideas.
- Frejus: A real genius wouldn't need to borrow inspiration from anyone else.
- Frejus: That said, I'm no longer that old run-of-the-mill everyman who couldn't make something valuable to save his life either.
- Frejus: So I've come to feel that my "lie" has gradually evolved into more of a... a "promise," perhaps?
- Frejus: It's not quite so far from the truth anymore, but at the same time, I've still got some ways to go.
Keep up the good work!
Forge ahead, intrepid inventor!- Frejus: I'll try my hardest! Your encouragement has given me a little more confidence.
I need some more time to test it out.
- Frejus: Be my guest! The barrel's extremely durable, so fire away!
Dialogue Set #2
Available after completing Pre-Packaged Solution.
- (Talk to Chenee or Frejus)
- Frejus: On top of those mechanical defenders, we'll also need maintenance meks to keep the cannon in working order and logistics meks to keep it supplied with ammunition and parts...
- Frejus: It looks like we've got our work cut out for us — the design blueprints alone will take the best part of a year to draw up!
- Chenee: No problem, just take your time. There's no need to stay up all night working on this either, we've got all the time in the world...
