Chenee is an event-exclusive NPC that first appeared during the Event World Quest The Gardes' Inventor in Rolling Crossfire.
Profile
At some point in the past, Frejus took a bullet for Chenee, causing her to follow him into the Gardes later on. However, Frejus himself has forgotten the incident and believes they first met when she joined the Gardes, during which he drunkenly claimed that he was a genius who turned down the Fontaine Research Institute's invitation thrice. Unbeknownst to him, Chenee genuinely turned down their recruitment offers herself and therefore knows that he lacks the talent needed to join them; she has simply pretended to believe it in order to be close to him. Since then, Chenee has been subtly nurturing Frejus' engineering skills,[1] although she occasionally worries that he may be growing too ambitious for his actual abilities.[2]
During the Event Sunny Summer Fontinalia, Chenee makes an appearance at the Wingalet's aquarium twice; first she appears on her own,[3] and a later-unlocked dialogue set includes her and Frejus together.[4]

She has brown hair and wears the blue uniform of the Gardes.

- Chenee: What do you think of Frejus's remote cannon?
It's pretty good.- It's a rather novel experience, alright.
- Chenee: Good, that's good.
- You don't sound so excited...
- Chenee: Ah... Sorry. I mean, it's not that I don't like it. It's just that I knew what the device would look like the moment I looked upon the blueprints.
- Chenee: Frejus is the one doing the hard work, and it does look hard. I see that he looks nervous, even though this is no big deal — there's no great risk of an accident occurring.
- Chenee: "Playing the part of a genius" is pretty tiring, don't you think?
- What are you getting at?
- Chenee: That he isn't a real genius. If I had to guess, he's just an ordinary person with a more active mind and ideas than usual.
- Chenee: It was drunk boasting, you know, that whole "rejecting the Fontaine Research Institute's offer three times" business. He's been putting in the work to protect that lie since.
- Chenee: Ah, right. Please keep this a secret for me. Reckon he doesn't think I've noticed.
- And how did you find out?
- Chenee: Probably because I really have rejected them myself, I guess? I'm somewhat aware of their standards. As for Frejus... He's a decent ways off from making the cut.
- So you're playing along with his act, then?
- Chenee: You could say so. Specifically, I play the role of the ignorant newcomer, asking him all manner of questions.
- Chenee: And sometimes I will ask him something particularly difficult on purpose and look at him expectantly, at which he will try his best to hide his embarrassment.
- Chenee: Then, I "accidentally" give him hints, and he will turn about and cough, pretending that he knew all along—
- Chenee: This whole process is quite fun, which is why I do not intend to expose him. Seeing him run around being busy is one of my favorite hobbies these days.
- Looks like this show will go on, then.
- Chenee: I imagine it will — for a long time, in fact.
- Chenee: As long as I don't tell him, he won't be able to tell. He even thinks that the newcomers' party was the first time we met, but it was a long time before that.
- Chenee: He's so very inobservant. I'm sure he doesn't remember — or perhaps he doesn't care — who he blocked the bullet for that day.

Dialogue Set #1
Available after completing The Cannon Has Ears and before completing Pre-Packaged Solution.
- Chenee: Proto-Boss. Do you want to talk about the cannon... or were you hoping to ask about Frejus?
- You don't seem very interested in the cannon...
- Chenee: Hah. You've seen right through me...
- Chenee: To be honest, I'm starting to regret helping Frejus keep up his whole "genius" act.
- Chenee: His ambition keeps growing unchecked. It's enough that he made an official military version of his cannon, but rushing out here to this dangerous place to test it...
- Chenee: If it wasn't for the fact that Miss Marine happened to be here already, he could've been in real danger.
- He's got you to protect him, too.
- You don't seem afraid of those monsters either.
- Chenee: Well, I set up a minefield that only the monsters can trigger to the cannon's rear. Even if the cannon doesn't get them all, there's no way they'll escape the ruins.
- Chenee: If something goes wrong with the minefield, I've also got my musket — more than enough to take out the luckier or more cunning ones.
- Chenee: I've been training hard ever since the last time I needed rescuing. I bet my shooting skills can even match Turenna's now.
- Chenee: Besides, the cannon's been doing a very good job up until now.
- Chenee: In fact, after the last field test received such a positive response, Frejus's endeavors haven't resulted in a single painful defeat.
- What if he does fail spectacularly?
- What if he falls on hard times?
- Chenee: I've wondered what I should do if everyone loses interest again and his inventions no longer attract attention...
- Chenee: "Don't worry about it. It doesn't matter if you're not a genius."
- Chenee: Is that how I should comfort him? It seems a little cruel.
- Chenee: Self-esteem is important. I don't want anyone to make him think less of himself. So, I have to help him keep up the act.
- Chenee: If those engineers he's been talking to abandon him, I'll recruit a few of the experts who keep sending me invites to come and play their parts.
- Chenee: I've stopped caring all too much if it's interesting or not. I just... can't let this pretense end too quickly.
- How about we talk later?
- Chenee: Alright, you get down to business. I'll be here with Frejus, so come find me if you need me.

- Frejus: On top of those mechanical defenders, we'll also need maintenance meks to keep the cannon in working order and logistics meks to keep it supplied with ammunition and parts...
- Frejus: It looks like we've got our work cut out for us — the design blueprints alone will take the best part of a year to draw up!
- Chenee: No problem, just take your time. There's no need to stay up all night working on this either, we've got all the time in the world...
