The living's easy...
- "The living's easy here at home..."
Dialogue
- Gebhard: Life back home is so peaceful. I wonder if Kaeya is still buried in work... Would he have some time to catch up and reminisce about the good old days?
Are you... retired?
- Gebhard: Haha, not yet. I'm just waiting for the younger generation to grow into their roles. Once they do, I can finally step back and enjoy some leisure time of my own.
- Gebhard: But... there's still a ton of field experience I need to put on paper. I want to pass on everything I know as systematically as I can.
- Gebhard: Times are changing fast, so I have to keep learning at the same time too. I'm picking up new things too, right alongside the youngsters.
- Gebhard: For example, back when we were learning how to fight with the musket, we always carried it at port arms, whether when marching or on guard duty.
- Gebhard: We'd rest the musket on our shoulders, and when the time came, we'd then lift it up, push the butt snug into the shoulder, and take aim.
So... Why the change?- Gebhard: Probably because our muskets kept getting caught on tree branches when we were in the woods... It's a long story, really.
- Gebhard: It's only been a few years, and now they're already experimenting with new stances — low ready, high ready, that sort of thing.
- Gebhard: They've even started to use Maison Gardiennage's theory of dynamic angles to improve how we fight close-quarters.
- Gebhard: Let me tell you, having to learn all these new things was a real shock at first. But I knew I had to keep up with the times, so I just kept my head down and trained as hard as I could.
- Gebhard: Otherwise, I'd end up teaching the fresh recruits obsolete tactics. That'd be totally unacceptable!
You know Kaeya?
- Gebhard: It's probably more accurate to say that I've gotten quite a bit of help from Captain Kaeya.
- Gebhard: Despite its name, the light cavalry squad is no lightweight at all —in [sic] fact, they're a vital mobile unit within the Knights and a fearsome, unstoppable force. They're constantly deployed to "put out fires" on the frontlines.
- Gebhard: Of the monster-clearing operations I've been on since I became a knight alone...
- Gebhard: They've provided my squad with strong and powerful support over seven operations, from the second battle for the ridge north of Springvale to our initial recon of Stormterror's Lair.
- Gebhard: And before Captain Kaeya, there was Captain Diluc, who was the same sort of man. Honestly? Those two were exactly what a Cavalry Captain should be. Perfect examples.
That's really high praise!- Gebhard: Yeah. On the other hand, there was also Feroux, the captain before Diluc... His stubbornness was a real pain in the neck.
- Gebhard: And he never spared the manpower for something unless he'd get credit in return. No glory in something? You'd get scraps. Same breed as that scumbag Eroch.
- Gebhard: The two exceptions are Ranged Company and Cavalry Company. These two know how to work alongside the rest — clean and seamless.
- Gebhard: Feroux only cared about claiming the glory and padding his reputation. Made you wonder if he even realized there was a war on.
Yeah... That's not ideal...- Gebhard: So, when young Diluc was announced as Feroux's replacement, everyone cheered.
- Gebhard: But even then, Diluc was always able to balance his fire and his manners without fault. He was just like this burst of elegant flame...
- Gebhard: At his promotion ceremony, Diluc took the initiative to make a toast to Feroux before leading away his former men right in front of his very eyes.
- Gebhard: We were all standing right there. I tried so hard to keep a straight face that I almost choked.
- Gebhard: *sigh* If only I could have another chance to work together with these two outstanding lads one more time before I retire...
You have a good rest.
- Gebhard: Thanks. You too.
