Maranasati Meditation Technique

Last updated 2026-07-13

The Maranasati Meditation Technique is a method of meditation used to escape the Apathic Interval.

Overview

It's described as a practice that involves cultivating and mastering one’s mind and thoughts when facing death, and letting go of all desire in order to reach a state of complete emptiness. The difficulty of this process varies depending on the individual, and those with stronger attachments may require years or even centuries to achieve it.[1]

Trivia

  • The Maranasati Caskets are tomb-like structures that guard the Apathic Interval with constant vigilance created by Ronova.[1][2] Although the exact relationship between the caskets and the meditation technique remains unclear, they are named after the same term: Maranasati.
  • The Maranasati meditation technique shares thematic similarities with Ei’s concept of eternity (whose essence is death[3]), particularly her rejection of ambitions and her belief that Visions (as symbols of ambition) lead to loss and suffering.[4] However, there is no confirmed connection between the technique and her.

Etymology

  • The Maranasati meditation technique refers to the Buddhist concept of Maraṇasati (mindfulness of death, death awareness), a Buddhist meditation practice that involves regarding death as inevitable and living with that urgency in every moment.
