UI Quest Quest Description

You've recovered Zeitlind's lost belongings and liberated the three areas, but the problem is far from resolved...
(Leave the Memory Core area with Zeitlind and Istoria)
(The Temple of Space turns red)
(The Traveler, Zeitlind, and Istoria are covered in red cubes and abducted)
(Melanta is shown as he observes from the Cage of Suchness)
(The Traveler finds themselves at Stormbearer Coast just like in Wanderer's Trail)
Paimon: Hey! Wake up! Helllooooooo~!
Paimon: You said we'd watch the sunrise together, how are you still asleep?
(‍Traveler‍): (Wait, isn't that Paimon's voice? Where did she go?)
(Walk forward until the screen glitches)
(‍Traveler‍): (Uhh...)
(The screen glitches repeatedly as the sea turns into red cubes and Melanta appears)
(Approach Melanta)
(The screen is covered in red cubes and the Traveler is transported to another place)
(Approach the area that resembles the Desert Pavilion)
(A male NPC and Melanta appear)
Icon Dialogue Idle ???: Ahhh, no, I can't—!
(The NPC is turned into a sand statue)
Icon Dialogue Idle Melanta: One cannot pass through this gate [sic] they cannot let go of all their desires.
(Continue to the next area that resembles Luyang Academy)
(Alara and Melanta appear)
Icon Dialogue Idle Alara: In Sumeru, we believe that to enter the state of no-thought, one has to be reborn in the Heaven of Nothingness first!
Icon Dialogue Idle Alara: Though they may call it "heaven," it's truly hell in every sense of the word!
(Alara is turned into an ink-person)
Icon Dialogue Idle Melanta: This place is neither heaven nor hell, neither existence nor nothingness.
(Continue to the next area that resembles Mahavaipulya Chamber)
(A female NPC and Melanta appear)
Icon Dialogue Idle ???: I've already let go of all desires.
(The NPC is turned into a paper-person)
Icon Dialogue Idle Melanta: Remember this state of mind forever. You no longer have any connection to the world.
(Walk towards the exit)
Icon Dialogue Idle Melanta: You shall remain here forever.
Icon Dialogue Idle Melanta: This is because you are unable to let go of your desires.
Paimon: Hey! Wake up! Helllooooooo~!
(Attack and destroy the mirror)
(The screen cracks)

(Arrive at the Apathic Interval)
(Approach the first Maranasati Casket)
(A tutorial is unlocked)
Maranasati Casket
Tutorial Maranasati Casket 1
Legends say they are the creations of another Ruling authority. These tomb-like constructs stand vigil over the Apathic Interval with tireless resolve, attacking all approaching life forms with cold impartiality. When their weak spot is exposed, Dex can take temporary control over them.

Tutorial Maranasati Casket 2
With Dex's help, you can tear these constructs apart and obtain Deathmuse Shards.
(Destroy the first casket)
(Istoria is released from a nearby cage)
Istoria: Once more, we return to this place...
Istoria: The last time I came, by human lifespans, it must have been... many, many, many... generations ago.
Istoria: Looks like we've all been cast back into the Apathic Interval.
Icon Dialogue Talk White So how are we supposed to get out?
Istoria: The usual way is through meditation — learning to master your mind and thoughts, and then letting go of every desire.
(Dex picks up an object)
Istoria: In short, we must maintain a state of complete emptiness.
Istoria: Simply enough said. But depending on a person's nature and the strength of their desires, it can take anywhere from a few years to several centuries.
Istoria: For someone like you who carries the fate of the world on your shoulders, your desires probably can't be cast aside... nor should they be.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Then what do we do?
Istoria: Let's find Zeitlind, and figure it out from there.
Dex: !
Icon Dialogue Talk White What'd you pick up?
Istoria: Wait, Dex was dragged in as well?
Istoria: In that case, there may yet be a chance to turn this around.
Istoria: Since Dex is also a Watcher, it might be able to use the power contained within these fragments to force open a path.
Istoria: We're going to need to give these fragments a name.
Istoria: I've heard of these overwrought coffins. They were set up by one of the temple mistress's sisters... Maranasati Caskets, I believe they were called.
Istoria: In which case, let's call the fragments Deathmuse Shards.
(A tutorial is unlocked)
The Unbroken Sea
Tutorial The Unbroken Sea
An ocean surging with crimson blocks. You may walk on the ocean's surface with Dex's help.
(Attempt to break the seal before obtaining all Deathmuse Shards)
(‍Traveler‍): (It feels like something is still missing...)
(When the northern casket drops blocks)
Istoria: Stretch the block with Dex's help.
(Stretch a block)
Let's climb to higher ground.
(Destroy the northern casket)
(A male NPC is released from a nearby cage)
???: Who is it!? Who's there?
Icon Dialogue Talk White (‍Traveler‍). One who belongs to this era.
Alara: Ah. Well, though I know nothing of your time, my name is Alara. I was once an Ascetic of the Age of Silence.
Alara: I no longer remember how much time has passed since I came here. Even this place has broken my silent cultivation.
Alara: So it is true... cultivating a mind without thought or desire leads one to reincarnate in the Unthinking Heaven of Evil...
Icon Dialogue Talk White It was nothing.
Icon Dialogue Talk White No need to thank me.
Alara: Well, thanks all the same!
Istoria: Saving you was more of a spur-of-the-moment thing. That said, we're planning to look for a way out that isn't meditation.
Alara: Are you not practiced in that art? Or is it simply not taught in your era?
Istoria: The first time I left this place, it took me hundreds of years. I gave up my pursuit of truth... and my longing to see my loved ones again.
(Dex picks up a Deathmuse Shard)
Istoria: This time, I'm not willing to give any of those up.
Alara: That makes two of us.
Dex: !
Istoria: Dex has picked up another Deathmuse Shard.
Alara: Deathmuse? Ah, you mean the Maranasati meditation technique. I know of it, and its use in cultivating one's mental state when facing death.
(Destroy the southern casket)
(Zeitlind is released from a nearby cage)
Zeitlind: *coughing*
Icon Dialogue Talk White Are you alright?
Zeitlind: ...I'm fine. I just had a very, very long nightmare.
Zeitlind: ...Forget it. Pretend I didn't say that.
Zeitlind: I can't take it anymore. Why does this keep happening to me?
Zeitlind: Why is it always me... First Mom and Dad... and now my sister...
(Dex picks up a Deathmuse Shard)
Icon Dialogue Talk White It's okay. I'm here with you.
Zeitlind: ...I know. I'm not angry at you.
Dex: ♪~
Zeitlind: What has Dex picked up?
Istoria: I call it a Deathmuse Shard. It may be a way to move from death unto life.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Let's go.
Zeitlind: Yes, let's.
(After destroying both caskets)
Istoria: Now that Zeitlind's been found, let's try to find a way out.
Alara: Are you sure we can get out of here by ourselves?
Istoria: Melanta and Nihilita can move within this place freely, and they usually bring people with them. In which case, Dex should be able to do the same.
Dex: ♪~
(Dex makes a peace sign)
Istoria: That's three Deathmuse Shards collected.
Istoria: Though I should say this is a temporary name, since I have no clue what Dex will be using them for either.
Istoria: What next, Dex?
Dex: !
Istoria: Let's follow its directions.
(Break the seal)
Alara: Look! Something's floating!
Istoria: Dex, (‍Traveler‍), if you could help, please.
(Dex expands the Spacelike Vector upwards which punches a hole through the giant hand and the ceiling)
Istoria: Although I do not know if that is the way out, the only thing we can do now is to take a closer look.
(Approach a wall on the stairs)
(The scene turns by 90 degrees to face the giant hand)
Alara: Oh no! Everything has turned upside down!
Alara: Is that the exit I see over there?
Istoria: Looks like it's going to be difficult without wings.
Istoria: To get to the hero's pure land of joy, one would have to pass the Wall of Lament first. And that wall is a barrier no mortal can climb.
Istoria: Let's go!
Alara: Oh no! Please tell me we didn't go through all that for nothing.
Istoria: Dex can take care of it.
(The hand regenerates and starts to throw red cubes)
Alara: Watch out!
Istoria: Looks like we can use Dex to hold it off for a short time.
(Escape the Apathic Interval)
Alara: Are we... out yet?
Istoria: Can you tell not with this familiar landscape? Although "familiar" might not be the right word to use anymore...
Istoria: What an odd color the sky has become.
Alara: Um... Actually, I never got out of the Heaven of Nothingness...
Istoria: Yes, I know. I've never seen you.
(Arrive at the Pillar Hall Central Zone)
Paimon: Ugh! Where did you two go just now? Paimon nearly had a heart attack there.
Paimon: Paimon was calling your names the whole time!
Istoria: Hmm? Why wasn't Paimon dragged into the Apathic Interval?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well... maybe because other than eating and sleeping...
Icon Dialogue Talk White She doesn't really think about much at all?
Istoria: Hmm. Makes sense.
Istoria: Looks like Melanta really is angry now.
Istoria: Sending (‍Traveler‍) up to face him has become urgent.
Istoria: Let's talk somewhere else. This place isn't exactly safe anymore.
Alara: Um, well, I know no one asked, but... Hello, everyone. My name is Alara.

Trivia

  • Paimon's dialogue during the Stormbearer Coast flashback uses lines once used in the game's intro during its Betas. These lines are no longer used, but the voice-over files can still be found.
  • During step 2 at the Stormbearer Coast flashback, the Nameless Island is completely missing.
  • Either Alara or Zeitlind can be rescued before the other. The cutscene that plays after the last person is rescued will differ as a result (Alara or Zeitlind will be standing with Traveler and Istoria as they approach the rescued person). There are no changes to the cutscene dialogue however.
