Dialogue

Talk to Serena

Icon Dialogue Question Serena
Serena: Mister, we meet again.
Icon Dialogue Arrow We meet again, little Cipher.
Serena: Cipher... Who's that?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Who are you again?
Icon Dialogue Arrow What are you doing here?
Serena: Ah, (mister/miss), I wanted to share some good news — I'm not stealing petty things anymore, and I don't have to curl up in a box to sleep now.
Serena: Everyone at the Marmoreal Market has looked after me. I'm quite happy nowadays, but...
Serena: I heard that on a mountain even higher than the Marmoreal Palace, many people have gathered to decide Okhema's future.
Serena: Everyone in the market is talking about it. Though they trust Lady Aglaea, there are also ominous rumors. It scares me...
Serena: Will Okhema become like Icatus — dark, chaotic, full of terrifying monsters everywhere?
Serena: That's why I want to visit the great Kephale. They say the holy city stands to this day thanks to their protection... maybe if I talk to them, I won't be afraid.
Serena: But the guard won't let me in...
Serena: (Mister/Miss), you're Okhema's great hero, so you must be able to come and go at Dawncloud. Could you bring me to Kephale?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Leave it to me!
Serena: Really? Thank you!
Serena: Um, would you mind talking to the guard? He looks kinda scary, and I'm too scared to approach...
(Continues to next step)
Icon Dialogue Exit Rules are made to be followed. Let's not go.
Serena: Mmm... I won't be a bother, but I want to wait a little longer. Maybe there's another way in...
(Exits dialogue)
(Interact with Serena again after exiting dialogue, optional)
Serena: (Mister/Miss), did you change your mind?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Leave it to me!
Serena: Really? Thank you!
Serena: Um, would you mind talking to the guard? He looks kinda scary, and I'm too scared to approach...
(Continues to next step)
Icon Dialogue Exit Rules are made to be followed. Let's not go.
(Exits dialogue)

Speak with the guard to ask for entry

UI Adventure Mission Mission Description

Due to Dawncloud's entry regulations, Serena, who wishes to speak with Kephale, is stopped by the guard at the entrance. Try talking to the guard to allow this little girl's innocent wish.
Young Guard: Good day, distinguished guest, (Trailblazer). How may I help you?
Icon Dialogue Arrow You— have you heard my story?
Young Guard: Of course. You're a VIP the Council of Elders specifically mentioned and recorded. I heard you and the other Chrysos Heirs defeated Nikador — there's no way I'd slack off around you.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Do me a favor: I want to bring someone in.
Icon Dialogue Arrow I want to bring someone in.
Young Guard: Distinguished guest, are you referring to that small girl?
Young Guard: This... my apologies, but we have our duties. We can't casually allow civilians through. I hope you understand...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Tell him the truth.
(Continues to next step)
Icon Dialogue Arrow Try confusing him with a trick.
(Trailblazer): Actually, that small girl isn't just some ordinary civilian...
Icon Dialogue Talk She's the granddaughter of Caenis.
(Trailblazer): She's the granddaughter of Elder Caenis!
Young Guard: The granddaughter of Lord Caenis? Hmm...if you insist, she does look a bit like that esteemed figure...
Young Guard: But if what you're saying is true, her name and appearance should already be recorded in the VIP register.
(Trailblazer): We can't fool him. We need another approach...
Icon Dialogue Talk She's a Chrysos Heir from the outlands.
(Trailblazer): She's a Chrysos Heir from Icatus!
Young Guard: Icatus? If memory serves, that's a distant city-state long since fallen.
Young Guard: I'm sorry, honored guest. Even if she's a foreign Chrysos Heir, she needs the Council of Elders' approval to enter.
(Trailblazer): We can't fool him. We need another approach...
Icon Dialogue Talk She's the phantom thief, Cipher.
(Trailblazer): She's Cipher, a demigod who inherited Zagreus's power, a lightning-fast master thief and Chrysos Heir!
Young Guard: Cipher... I do recall that name. She's indeed a Chrysos Heir endowed with divine authority. Her portrait should be on file — let me check.
The guard opens his VIP register, finds Cipher's portrait, then glances at Serena a few steps away and frowns.
Young Guard: ...Is this portrait really her?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Yes, she's only eight right now.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Right. She wasn't that slim in those days.
Young Guard: ...
Young Guard: Honored guest (Trailblazer), please don't toy with me...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Better to tell the truth.
You tell the guard about Serena's wish honestly. He seems somewhat moved.
Young Guard: I see... But, honored guest, you should know that Kephale has long been in a deep slumber, and hasn't responded in ages.
Young Guard: Also, rules are rules. Even if I let her in out of respect for you, there are so many people around that someone would surely notice...
Young Guard: Let's do this, honored guest: Come back tomorrow at the Entry Hour with the girl. Fewer people will be around then. As long as you're quick, there shouldn't be any trouble... hopefully.
You pass the guard's suggestion on to Serena, and agree to meet her tomorrow at the Entry Hour.

Greet Serena before entering Dawncloud

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

The sympathetic but dutiful guard suggests that you could bring Serena into Dawncloud quietly during the less-crowded morning hours...
The next morning...
(Talk to Serena)
Serena: (Mister/Miss), sorry for making you get up so early... The guard was right, there are definitely fewer people now. Good thing we talked to him ahead of time.
Serena: But he's not here this morning, and nobody else stopped us... (Mister/Miss), where should we go from here?
The girl takes in the grand scenery with curious eyes. You suddenly realize that after today, she might never get another chance to visit Dawncloud.
Icon Dialogue Arrow This is a rare opportunity. Let me show you around a bit.
Serena: Great! I don't know the way, so please lead on, (Mister/Miss).

Take Serena around to explore Dawncloud

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

As a holy site dedicated to honoring Kephale, Dawncloud features many remarkable views. Show Serena around the place.
(Approach the marked location)
Trailblazer Is there anything worth seeing at Dawncloud...
Trailblazer Hurry up, and take her for a walk along the way.

Observe the giant mural

(Approach the marked location)
Serena: Wow, what a spectacular mural... it's even bigger than the one at Kephale Plaza!
Serena: (Mister/Miss), what's the story behind this mural?
Icon Dialogue Arrow A small brazier roasting big-eyed cuties.
Icon Dialogue Arrow The intimidation trait took effect.
Serena: That's kind of hard to grasp... but that big eye must be Aquila, right? I've read a bunch of Titan stories lately, so I can sort of recognize it.
Serena: Aquila's light feels so dazzling and scorching, it looks like everyone's really afraid...

Observe the other giant mural

(Approach the marked location)
Serena: This mural depicts... Kephale receiving the "Dawn Device"? I think I saw that in Miss Ctesiphona's art collection...
Serena: Supposedly, the Dawn Device was a gift from Aquila to Kephale — Aquila stuffed lots of radiance into that huge mechanical sphere.
Serena: After Aquila closed all their eyes and plunged the world into darkness, Kephale rose from their throne to shoulder the world's final dawn...
Serena: (Mister/Miss), did you notice? In the previous mural, lots of people knelt down in submission, but in this one, everyone naturally reaches out to share the light.
Serena: Maybe it's hinting at the difference between the two suns — Aquila's light was once harsh and merciless, while Kephale's dawn seems warmer and gentler...
Icon Dialogue Arrow No way... Are you for real?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Wow, a natural-born talent for priesthood!
Serena: Thanks for the compliment! I really hope Kephale will respond to me soon...
Icon Dialogue Arrow Uh, you might be reading too much into it...

Continue deeper into Dawncloud toward Kephale's divine vessel

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

Now, proceed further into Dawncloud toward the Worldbearing Titan.
(Approach the marked location)
Serena: What a huge lake! Could it have been the great Kephale's mirror... or maybe their washbasin?
(Approach the marked location)
Serena: "The long straight stairway leads to the Throne of Worlds" — So the picture book was telling the truth!

Visit the Demigod Council

(Approach the marked location)
Serena: What a beautiful plaza... I see so many Titan symbols all around, and I don't recognize them all yet.
Serena: Kephale's so close to us... If we talk here, can they hear us?
??? Heh, a clueless child who doesn't even know how to pay respects to Kephale, yet still thinks a Titan will answer her trivial chatter?
Cyrones: Young girl, let me ask: Do you know what the Kephale ritual is?
Serena: (Mister/Miss), do I really need to learn these complicated rituals to talk with Kephale? I've never heard that before...
Cyrones: Heh, little girl, you're free to ask me anything. Don't let these heretical outsiders lead your faith astray.
Icon Dialogue Arrow So you know Kephale well?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Nobility matters not when it comes to faith.
Cyrones: Ridiculous! I've presided over the rituals for decades — no one knows Kephale better than I do.
Serena: Grandpa, the people at the market aren't heretics! Everyone says as long as we speak earnestly to Kephale, they'll definitely hear us!
Cyrones: How sad, that such a young child has already picked up these stubborn bad habits. Fine, since it's still early, I, the high priest of Kephale, shall enlighten the next generation.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Bullying someone so much younger... have you no shame?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Throwing your age around — pathetic.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Old-timer, go ahead — straighten us out with all your might!
Cyrones: Heh, someone like you can't provoke me. Faith has nothing to do with age.
Cyrones: Little girl, let me test you: The Kephale ritual has three steps. How is it performed?
Serena: I don't know.
Cyrones: Place the offering on the altar, fold your hands, and recite the prayer three times with sincerity.
Cyrones: This "civilian's rite" you favor doesn't even provide a valuable offering. Why would Kephale respond to that?
Serena: But everyone already struggles day to day — now they'd have to spend money on an offering...?
Cyrones: Girl, that's just their excuse for being stingy. An offering is a sacrifice — how can you call it faith with no sacrifice?
Serena: ...
Serena: Grandpa, may I ask what exactly the relationship between Kephale and us is?
Cyrones: Hahaha! Someone's actually asking me what Kephale has to do with us?
Cyrones: Look, they sit atop Dawncloud, gazing upon every soul in Okhema. All that we are exists because of their watchful eye. A god so revered — how could we not worship and sacrifice to them?
Serena: But every bard in Amphoreus says Kephale is the all-knowing father, the guardian deity of all beings.
Serena: I don't quite know what "all-knowing father" means... but like every real dad, they wouldn't demand anything from their children.
Serena: I heard that my dad left Icatus to protect me, holding up a door plank behind the crowd to block terrifying monsters.
Serena: Isn't Kephale doing the same now — raising the Dawn Device to keep their creations safe from darkness?
Cyrones: ...
Serena: I don't know what rituals you follow when meeting a god. I just know that if I speak sincerely to my dad... I'll always receive his gentle comfort.
Serena: A father would never greet his children with a cold shoulder!
Serena sobs and runs off.

Comfort Serena

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

The conversation with the priest has stirred up emotions in Serena. Perhaps talking with her will help her feel better.
(Talk to Cyrones, optional)
Cyrones: ...
Cyrones: Heh, you think a child's naive rambling will warp my faith? I'll go through every proper step of the ritual!
Icon Dialogue Arrow What's Kephale to you people?
Cyrones: ...
Cyrones: Kephale... obviously the father of all living beings.
Icon Dialogue Exit ...Farewell.
(Talk to Serena)
Serena: Sorry, (Mister/Miss)... I lost my composure just now.
Serena: But I've been around long enough to know how to calm myself. I'm totally fine now!
Icon Dialogue Arrow Great, you're in good spirits!
Icon Dialogue Arrow How old are you, really...?
Serena: Hehe... I think I'm already an adult!
Icon Dialogue Arrow It's not your fault — blame that old man from before.
Serena: ...Next time I see that old man, I should still apologize to him. He's just living in his own world...

Proceed further into Dawncloud towards Kephale's divine vessel

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

Now, proceed further into Dawncloud toward the Worldbearing Titan.
(Approach the marked location)
Serena: Can we really go up here?
(Approach the marked location)
Serena: Ah, we're getting closer to Kephale...

Approach Kephale and try speaking with the Titan

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

You've finally reached the closest spot to Kephale. Try speaking with it.
(Approach marked location)
Serena: If you just look up, you can see Kephale... They're so tall and cold, but if you stretch out your hand, you can touch the light of the Dawn Device.
Serena: If we speak here... surely Kephale can hear us now, right?
Serena: O mighty Kephale, bearing that enormous Dawn Device — surely you must be exhausted...
Serena: But I beg of you, please don't abandon the light of Okhema...
Serena prays aloud. You, knowing the Titan's truth, are well aware that Kephale won't truly answer her.
...Until you hear a deep, resonant voice approaching...
(The floor mural lights up)
???: Child, do not fret.
Serena: Ah... this sound, are you Kephale?
Kephale? It is I, the Throne of Worlds, Father of All Beings, and Bearer of Eternal Day.
Kephale? Child, fear not — I will carry the burden of this heavy dawn, shielding the Holy City from the tides of darkness... for all eternity.
Serena: That'd be wonderful! Great Kephale... Please stay with me a little longer. I still have so much to tell you...
Something's off. You've never met such a straightforward Titan before, and...
The voice is coming from way too close.

Investigate the source of "Kephale's" voice

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

Something seems suspicious about "Kephale's" voice... Perhaps we should quietly investigate its source.
Just as you suspected, it's not Kephale speaking — it's the guard.
He's holding a voice amplifier made from stone, lowering his voice to imitate the majesty and compassion of a Titan.
Serena: *sob* I know Mom and Dad aren't coming back... I'll try to grow up strong... But when I just can't be strong... Can I confide in you, great Kephale?
Young Guard: Of course. Kephale would listen to people's prayers equally.
At times like this... maybe it's best not to interrupt.

Speak with Serena and escort her out of Dawncloud

UI Adventure Mission Step Description

Serena has finally fulfilled her wish. Just keep this kind lie to yourself for now, and escort her out of Dawncloud.
(Talk to Serena)
Serena: (Mister/Miss), thanks for waiting! The great Kephale was really kind and patiently listened to everything I had to say.
Serena: Now, my heart feels all warm and fuzzy. I'm not scared at all!
Icon Dialogue ArrowFrom today onward, you're a little ray of sunshine!
Serena: Hehe~ Then I'll take the warmth I felt from the great Kephale today back to the market and share it with everyone!
Icon Dialogue ArrowI'm so jealous you got to speak to a Titan.
Serena: Thank you for climbing all the way up here with me... It's getting late, (Mister/Miss). Let's head back together!
(Mission completed)
(Unlock Achievement That Quiet Stone Path at Dawn)

Post-Mission

(Talk to Young Guard)
Young Guard: Oh, it's you, (Trailblazer). Anything I can help you with?
Icon Dialogue Arrow Gotta hand it to you, buddy — your acting skills are top-notch.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Huh, who knew Kephale was this young?
Icon Dialogue Arrow I wanna be Kephale for a day. Think you can make it happen?
Icon Dialogue Arrow That kid's luck is something else... always meeting kind people.
Young Guard: Haha, you caught me. Please keep it a secret... Sometimes, a little white lie is just what's needed.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Huh, you really get it, don't you?
Icon Dialogue Arrow So... why'd you do it?
Young Guard: ...
Young Guard: When I was little, Okhema wasn't as peaceful as it is now. Attacks on the city walls by Strife Titankins were almost a daily thing. One day you'd see someone, and the next...
Young Guard: My father was a guard of the holy city. When battles were fierce, he'd grab his helmet and spear and wouldn't come back all night. And I'd be left alone at home, burying myself under the blankets to drown out the screeching of the Strife Titankins outside...
Young Guard: One quiet Curtain-Fall Hour, as I prayed to the statue of Kephale outside the window... I heard them respond.
Young Guard: They said: I am Kephale, the Throne of Worlds, Father of All Beings, Bearer of Eternal Day. Child, fear not...
Young Guard: Kephale's comfort gave me courage. It helped me sleep amidst the chaos. But one day, when I prayed to Kephale as usual... there was no answer.
Young Guard: The next morning, I found out... my father had fallen in battle defending the holy city.
Young Guard: The other guards handed me this stone voice amplifier. They found it on my father... it was his horn, his instrument...
Young Guard: It was proof that, in the name of Kephale, he stayed by his child's side in his own way.
