Bennu

Bennu is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon.

Profile

Unlike the three Kings, Bennu is an intelligent construct fashioned by King Deshret, who entrusted him with the duty of guarding the gates of Aaru. Bennu possesses a will of his own. He watches over the eternal utopia within Aaru — the Golden Slumber. Following the passing of King Deshret, he ceased his own functions and fell into stillness.^[2]

Despite being an intelligent construct, Bennu possesses a remarkably vivid personality. Serious and earnest, he detests having his plans disrupted, and has little tolerance for irresponsible colleagues. He has also frankly stated that among the Seven Pillars, the colleague he admires most is Hermanubis, the Sage of Sages.^[2]

The shield of Aaru Village's Guardian is said to bear the blessing of Bennu.^[3]

Etymology

• Bennu (Egyptian: bnw) is an Egyptian deity associated with the sun, rebirth, and creation, and was often depicted as a heron. Earlier depictions of Bennu, however, appear more like the Yellow Wagtail. The name Bennu is related to the Egyptian verb "weben" (Egyptian: wbn) which means "to shine."
